Does anyone FF and have well water?

Obviously this will be a question for my ped, but I heard that you have to boil well water before you mix formula powder with it. Is that your experience? Just curious.

Re: Does anyone FF and have well water?

  • We have well water. Our kitchen faucet has a filter on it and I always boil the water. Even at my MIL's house, where they have normal city water, I still boil the water.

  • Yes, you would have to boil it.

Another option would be to buy a Brita water filter pitcher.

We fill ours with tap water and let it sit out on the kitchen counter to keep it at room temperature.  It should work fine for well water, too.

    Best $30 I ever spent.

  • I don't, but friends of mine do and used bottled distilled water

  • I do not have well water but we use Nursery Water b/c I don't trust tap. I have heard not to use well water with formula.
  • Thanks ladies. I am just trying to figure out all of the things I will need to think about once the baby is here.

  • We have well water and we just use a Britta Pitcher to filter the water.  Our Pedi said that was fine.
  • Be sure to have your water tested; our county offers it free for families w/ new babies.  They sent me specific bottles to fill (at specific times) and I brought them in.  They sent the results, testing for things like nitrates.  Our water tested fine (we also have a conditioning system), but we still choose to use nursery water for now.  It's got the added flouride that city water has.

  • We use a Brita pitcher and leave it at room temp so its ready for bottles.  Our well is filtered before coming in the house, so basically it is filtered 2 times before DS has it.
