Can anyone recommend any natural childbirth OB/GYNs in the St. Pete area? By natural childbirth, I mean vaginal and unmedicated. Also, a plus would be if the doctor also suggests alternative treatments for common pregnancy ailments before he/she prescribes meds.
TIA!
Re: Natural childbirth friendly docs in St. Pete?
Thanks for the info! Is this doctor and midwife in Clearwater?
I'm going to All Children's OB/GYN in St. Pete. They have 2 locations - one at Bayfront downtown and the other at St. Pete General. They deliver at both hospitals. At this practice, you have the option to rotate between 7 OB's or 3 midwifes. I chose the midwifes because I am low risk and because it is much more personal. I would highly recommend this option. They will be with you from the time you check in and will deliver your baby assuming there are no complications. It seemed like a no-brainer to me. From my understanding, there is much less intervention with midwives as well. They are completely open to no medication birthing and even if you want all the drugs. They present all the options and let you have the final say.
Another option you might want to consider if you really want to go all natural is a birthing center. My friend had a baby at Breath of Life birthing center in Largo and loved it. It is very hands off during L&D. The facility is beautiful and the rooms all have showers and large jacuzzi tubs for water births. The only downside to this option is that if you change your mind about pain meds in the heat of the moment, there is no option to get any because it is only midwives - no anesthesiologists. HTH!

I had no idea that All Children's had midwives available as a practice. WIth my son, I had him at Labor of Love in Dunedin (a birth center with midwives), but I got absolutely no lactation assistance after the birth, so I am trying to do my research now for when we are pregnant again. I want to make sure I have lots of help with BFing, especially since we were not successful this time.
Do you like the 3 midwives that you see?
