best family friendly neighborhoods?

hi ladies, I'm a WA native, but have been away since graduating UW in `97 (!)  My family and I are strongly considering moving back to be closer to my extended family (who are scattered from Whidbey to Spokane).  We're thinking we'd prefer to be relatively close to downtown, for a couple reasons - I'm an atty and will likely find work near downtown and we'd like easy access to all the fun cultural activities that Seattle has to offer.   Any suggestions?  My last residence was at 15th and Ravenna as a UW student and I definitely was not in the same place in life then as I am now!  I've also been away so long that its hard for me to know where to start looking.  Ideally I'd like a walkable community.  Asking too much?  Thanks so much in advance.

    I would try Ballard, Greenwood, Magnolia. Those all have a lot of families, are close to downtown, and are walkable. Good luck with your move!
