peanut butter is not allowed.
My dd usually eats pb and j for lunch or chicken nuggets, hot dogs, meatballs, turkey meatballs, grilled cheese....
I am so stumped on ideas for lunch at school. She is full day for the 1st time this year (kindergarten). All I can come up with is hard boiled eggs. She is not into lunchmeat. I need ideas that are filling and will keep her satisfied until 330pm when she comes home.
Thanks!!
Re: I need school lunch ideas- don't know what to pack?
Have you tried those pb alternatives? The allergy board can tell you about them. I think one is called sun butter or something.
Anyway, can't you just pack what you normally make her in a thermal type container so it stays warm?
Many of my students do this and their food is fine by lunch time.
Where is DandelionMom..she always has a GREAT list....
I need to get groceries today or tomorrow and I'm thinking about this too...
What about a tuna sandwich? Or tuna and crackers? My son likes cheese sandwiches or roll-ups with tomato and cheese.
I often pack him yogurt or string cheese as well for protein.
Someone else asked a similar question on another board. Here is our go to list:
Whole wheat tortilla, slathered with peanut butter (almond butter) and wrapped around a banana
chicken salad in a container with dressing in small container on the side
Macaroni and cheese with broccolli warmed up and put in a thermal container
Sandwiches of all sorts (I cut into shapes with cookie cutters for the little ones)
Wraps! (this goes over very well with them, and I do all sorts of varieties)
Hot dogs
Pasta salad with grilled chicken slices or shredded chicken
Quesadillas with salsa in a small container on the side
A container filled with dipping foods such as: Thick sausage slices, french bread slices, carrots, celery, caulliflower, cheese sticks and then I will put a side container of spaghetti sauce for dipping.
For their fruit or veggies, I will do: celery sticks, carrot sticks, whatever fruit is in season and sometimes a mini fruit salad.
All their lunches include one snack and one fruit/veggie and sometimes a yogurt or string cheese and then I throw an extra snack in the front part of their backpack for recess time. I don't do juice boxes. The girls drink water that I pack in their own containers.

Cream cheese and apple butter? Just cheese?
Also, don't give up on lunch meat. When kids get into school and see what other kids around them are eating, sometimes they change their minds about things that were formerly considered "yucky."
My daughter gets a sandwhich (she's been picking bologna or ham) but since yours doesn't like lunch meat, what about just a jelly sandwhich, or cream cheese.....they veg. kind onf wheat bread is a hit with my daughter. Or you could make chicken salad, or if she likes hard boiled eggs, make egg salad
You could also send pretzels and cream cheese for her to dip it in.
My daughter also gets a bowl of fruit EVERY day, we've sent watermelon, peaches, bing cherries, pineapple. Then she gets a frolzen go-gurt, so by lunch time it's regular yogurt. She gets a cheese square and a box of Horizon Organic Milk
Just make sure you put ice-packs in her lunch box...I put two in my daugher's and they are still cold when she gets home from school, and their hours are 8:50-3:45
good Luck
