This was a fascinating story on NPR this morning: https://www.npr.org/2011/08/08/139033757/babys-palate-and-food-memories-shaped-before-birth?sc=fb&cc=fp
No wonder DD loves chips, I craved them my whole pregnancy. Salad too, that might explain her love of some veggies. Although I had a crazy strong aversion to green beans and she loves them....

Re: NPR: Babies Palate and Food Memories Shaped Before Birth
I'll have to check it out later, but my experience so far doesn't follow that logic. DD loves foods I don't eat (bananas and blueberries, esp.) and won't eat foods I ate by the boat ton while I was PG (inlcuding ice cream - she cannot be my child).
i could mostly only stomach breakfast foods while pregnant with tomas, and now that's all he likes to eat. always has been a big breakfast kid. we try to get all his calories met during the first 4hrs of the day, or else they just won't go in!
i had no appetite issues with audrey. i was starving all the time and now she is too! she is our little hungry hungry hippo! i can't believe sometimes how much that girl can eat! and she's still a baby! at this age, tomas was eating a few purees (mostly spinach and avocado, oatmeal and banana). if there is solid (read = non pureed) food on the table, audrey rejects her purees.
my mom, while pregnant with my brother, craved ramen noodles. my brother does too and will eat them plain, uncooked if he can't get to a pot of water! gross. but he loves it that way.
this would explain my kids' love of fruit, esp watermelon and blueberries. But DD is still a very picky eater, same as DH and his Mom. DS will eat anything.
