Give me the low down on botox

Turning 31 this week...

I've noticed some lines between my eyebrows, like when you get mad and squint at your children/dh/dog.  Hanging out with my mom this weekend I see she has the same lines just much deeper.  I'd like to prevent the constant "mad" look and keep deep lines from forming before I'm 40.  Anyone have advice for me?  I'm kinda nervous and never done anything like this before.

Do I call my dermatologist?  Does it hurt?  How long does it take to wear off?

Re: Give me the low down on botox

  • I go to a plastic surgeon that does it. Pretty much what they will have you do is make a "mad" face so they can see all the wrinkles and fine lines. I get it in between my eyes for the '11's" as they call them- the two lines inbetween your eyes, and they do a little around my eyes to open up my eyes, it helps to look more awake.

I think the first time it hurts, because you dont know what to expect, but now it's not a big deal. When I first started going a few years ago, I started when I was 27- and I have always gone two to three times a year.

  • i have the same lines, and i have told my husband i want botox. i asked my dermatologist about it when i was last there, and she told me that it would take about 15 units to do that area, and she charges $15/unit.  i have seen groupons for botox for less but i would really only get it done by someone i trust (i.e. my doctor). i forget what she told me about how long it would last, but i believe she said it would be about 6 months.

i haven't had it done, so i don't know about the pain, but i assume it's tolerable. i may get it done. i hate that i am so vain, but there it is: i'm vain.

  • I just asked my SIL because she's here.  She said she had those lines done and a few other spots on her forehead.  It costs her $230 in the DC area.  She said it lasted about 4 months and it didn't hurt.

    Also, her dermatologist did it.

  • I get botox and it NEVER hurts when I get it. I go to my derm. every 4 months or so and get the minimal amount. Usually 28 units, between my eye brows and my forehaed.  It's so easy, and takes just a few min. It does take 3-7 days to see results, which I was surprised about. I thought it worked instantly, but it is gradual...and it goes away gradually too. The average is 4-6 months, depending on how fast you metabolise it.

I pay 10 per unit bc my derm has a comsetic day once per month where they offer it at a cheaper cost.

    Love botox!!
