24 hour headache...ugh

I woke up with a splitting headache yesterday.  I took some tylenol but it never helped so I just decided to go to bed early.  I woke up at 4 am still having the headache and then woke up for the day about an hour ago and its still here.  I thought that it seemed weird so I put a call in to the OB but just waiting on a call back.  Has anyone else experienced this?

  • I had a headache all day yesterday as well and have been getting them more often.  I have bad allergies and forgot to take my allergy meds too, which made it worse.  Try putting an ice pack on your forehead or neck, that sometimes does wonders for mine!

  • I was having headache's like crazy a few weeks ago! I started drinking a ton more water and they went away. I'm going to the bathroom like a mad woman now - but the headaches are gone so whatever!!

Good Luck - I hope it goes away!!!

  • I had a headache most of the weekend.  I'm really stuffed up, so I think it is all weather/allergy related.  I agree, it stinks!

  • I got a headache over the weekend too, but I attributed it to too much cleaning & just took a break & made DH take over. :) I think it actually has something to do with allergies, they have really been acting up lately.
  • I've had tons of persistent headaches.  I talked to my massage therapist about it (who happens to also be pregnant) and she said it is common in pregnancy with the surge in hormones.  She also expected me to have more shoulder and neck trouble with pregnancy which can trigger headaches (I didn't think to ask why - this is not usually a problem for me).  Tylenol does nothing for me, but taking a relaxing bath and/or drinking coffee have been lifesavers.

  • Thanks ladies.  Still waiting on the nurse to call back but just knowing that it is fairly common to experience these headaches makes me worry less.   :)
  • With my last pregnancy I had a bad headache that lasted 3 solid days... I called my OB practically crying because Tylenol did absolutely nothing for me. They gave me Fioricet, which is a mild narcotic (that does NOT cross the placenta, so safe for pregnant women) mixed with Tylenol and caffeine- it was a lifesaver. If I have more bad headaches this time around, I won't hesitate to ask.

  • Could be dehydration or hormones like others have said, but I would check your blood pressure too just to be safe. My OB always says if a headache lasts more than 24 hours to call, so you definitely did the right thing there.  I have a headache for at least part of the day pretty much every day. Tylenol does pretty much nothing for me either.

If they don't have you come in you could always go to one of those machines at a drug store and check your BP yourself. I had HBP with my first pregnancy and it cause bad headaches. I wound up in labor and delivery once and they gave me a combo of percocet and caffiene which finally made it go away. I think they gave me IV fluids too.
