Cereal just doesn't have a nutrional value that makes it worthwhile, IMO. I'd rather her first taste of solids be avocado or some other fruit/vegetable. It does have iron, but she's getting that in her formula.
There's nothing wrong with cereal, don't get me wrong. I just don't think it's necessary, and by 6 mo (when we plan to start her on solids), she should be able to handle other foods.
I came to this decision by reading articles on BLW and hybrid puree/BLW theories.
I don't eat a lot of white, processed grain myself (and if I do, I consider it more of a treat), so I don't know why I would give my tiny baby any. I will be discussing with my Dr whether a cereal of some sort (like oatmeal or brown rice cereal) is important, but will most likely be starting with avocado. White rice (along with white breads, etc) are simple carbs and are digested like sugar. There is just no need for that in a baby's diet.

I agree with the others. It just doesn't seem necessary. I've also read a couple of articles that have helped convince me to just skip them and go straight to vegetables and fruits.
We tried cereal/oatmeal a few times with limited success (he'd rather play than eat), so we stopped. After reading up more on BLW I think we are going that route. I'll talk to his pedi this week at his appt.
Same as pps but also Jack is gaining well, sleeping well and has no reflux issues. I just don't see a good reason to add cereal. I also am looking at blw as a way to get dh and I onto a healthier way of eating.
We started with oatmeal and sweet potatoes and stopped because we didn't like the way she was digesting the sweet potatoes. We decided we will go with BLW when she is 6 months. She gets what she needs from BM for now.

My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite."

From the other side, just this weekend we gave DS his first taste of rice cereal. After talking it over with our pedi, he suggested it to get him used to the texture of food and the process of eating from a spoon. It's not really for any nutritional value, more just for practice. My husband has a lot of food allergies, so we'll wait to start on veg/fruits for a while longer.
Just wanted to throw my two cents in.
Oh, and DS LOVED the rice cereal. He opened his mouth wide open and wanted more.

We're also looking at BLW.
