Cost of infant daycare?

I called about 6 places in Raleigh and I am shocked at the prices. I only called 5 star in home daycares and centers, so I am wondering if that has something to do with it. I was wondering what the average cost everyone is paying? The cheapest I found was $170 a week and the most expensive was $330.

YIKES!! We are going to be broke.

Re: Cost of infant daycare?

  • Average in CLT is about 225-250/week

  • I think $170 is actually very good ... I'm not sure you'll find much better than that?
  • A LOT.  Most daycares we looked at were approximately $1250-$1450 a month.  I forget what that breaks out to weekly.

I wouldn't get hung up on the start ratings.  Definitely I'd try to concentrate on 4 and 5 stars, but I'd pay more attention to violations than just the star rating.  Daycare is pricey.

  • In GSO it is about $130 for in home on average and $165 for centers.

I also would not get too hung up on the ratings and would look outside of 5 star for sure.?

  • The one we were looking at was $198 a week and that is just for 3 days.  When/if I go back to work next spring the one we are one the waiting list for is $250 a week.  We've always known it'd be about $1000 a month and that is how we've been budgeted.  I live in Charlotte and this seems to be about average.
