School-Aged Children

First day!

Man - it was crazy.  We had planned on DH walking DS#1 to school every day, but THIS MORNING we found out DH got a new job and had to go in to sign some papers today, so I ended up having to drive him over with DS#2 and then headed into work late.  DH will be starting THIS WEEK so it looks like I'll be doing drop-off every day and adjusting my work schedule.

DS#1 didn't cry or hang on to me.  When I left him, he was doing well.  When I picked him up and asked him what he did today, the first thing he said was, "I was not hitting someone!" LOL - looks like all those talks about keeping our hands to ourselves really sunk in! And I believe him, he wasn't there long enough to hit anybody today!! (half-days all this week, starts full days next week)

Re: First day!

  • Congrats on a great first day for your big boy, and on your DH's new job.

Boy, when it rains, it pours, huh?  I went back to teaching last year when DS started kindergarten, and it was pretty crazy for a while until we sorted out the new routine, but we eventually figured it out.

We don't start school until the 29th.  Do you have a longer break in the winter, too? Or do you end at Memorial Day?

  • More breaks during the year - Fall break and Spring break will each be 2 weeks long and Winter Break is like a full 3 or 4 weeks instead of 2/2.5 weeks like the other schools around here.

Yes, everything will be ok - just gotta sort out this schedule

Sounds similar to year round school.  Lucky.  I wish we had year round school here.  We go back the 22nd.  In TX all public schools start and end on the same day.

Hope you're able to work out the kinks in  your schedule so your mornings go smoothly.

  • Yup, this is our school district's first year doing year-round school.  I honestly wish we'd had it when I was growing up!  I always thought it would have been better (but I was a strange child, LOL)
