Any LOs had pink eye yet?

DS's teacher showed me that his eye was kind of pink when I picked him up today.  I'm hoping he just scratched it and it will heal overnight but of course I'm worried it is really pink eye.  Has any one had this yet?  Is the treatment for babies also an eyedrop?  How does that work???

Re: Any LOs had pink eye yet?

  • LO had pink eye a couple of months ago.  It's more than just a little redness in the eye, the whole white of the eye turns red and there is a weepy discharge, it looks really bad.  The treatment is eye drops same as for adults and it was no big deal, we just put a drop on the inside corner of his eye and let it roll to the outer corner.  He never had any problem with the drops at all.

Good luck, hopefully he just scratched his eye!

Thanks, glad to hear it was not too bad at all.  I'm probably just dreading it b/c DH's a wuss about putting drops in his eyes and I'm hoping DS didn't inherit that!

  • Nate got it last school year from daycare. They gave us (because I then caught it too!) eye ointment, which wasn't difficult to use, but blocks your vision pretty bad.  The redness cleared up almost immediately though.  There are two kinds though, bacterial and viral.  We had the viral, which can last up to a few weeks and the ointment is just for the redness and itching, it doesn't actually cure it.  They tell you it's safe to return to daycare/work too, even though you'll still have it for awhile.  It just has to run its course.  The bacterial is obviously caused by bacteria and is treated with antibiotic drops.

  • So glad it turned out not to be pink eye for C but a relief to hear it is really not too big of a deal since I'm sure it will hit my kiddo at some point.  Thanks!
