Twin Bed and Mattress

You ladies must be veterans of kid beds so maybe someone can help me out.

I just bought a twin bed for my 3 year old and it got delivered yesterday. It has rails (so doesn't need box spring) and I bought a thinner "kid" mattress - about 4 or 5 inches high. The mattress seems to leave about a 1.5 to 2 inch gap on one side. I called the store telling them that I want to exchange for a "normal" twin mattress since this one seems to be too small and they tell me that any twin mattress is going to have a gap with the twin bed. This seems totally wrong! Anyone deal with this kid of situation? TIA!

Re: Twin Bed and Mattress

  • Both my kids have this type of bed, and -- yes -- there's a slight gap between the edge and the mattress, even with a normal mattress.  It makes it easier to change the fitted sheet, but it's a pain because stuffed animals and books tend to work their way down into the cracks.
