Returning Disposable Diapers?

DH and I got about 6 boxes of diapers at our baby shower.  We are planning to CD, but we'll keep a box or two of the really small sizes to have on hand until the meconium (spelling?) is gone, and in case I don't get around to laundry in time and we run out of CD's.

I really don't think we'll use all the diapers we received and we received some that are size 4 and bigger, which I really don't want to hold on to for a couple years. I'd like to return them but I don't know where they came from and I don't have a receipt.  Any tips/tricks to returning them for store credit?  I've heard Walmart is good for this, what about Target (we have a lot left on our Target registry that I could buy with store credit)?  Do I need to try to add them to my registry, or just go into the store and return them?

  • You should be able to just take them to walmart and return them. As long as they arent a target brand or anything you shouldn't have a problem. No need to add to your registry I don't think.

  • I'd try Target.  I know they can be kind of sh!tty about returns sometimes, but I went this past weekend with arm loads of stuff to return and they took everything back, no questions asked, and gave me a store credit.  The only thing I had to do was give them my driver's license.

Obviously if the diapers are store specific you won't be able to get away with it, but if it's just some huggies or pampers, I'd say try Target since you have a registry there.

  • Target will also accept them as a return. You can do one of two things, you can add that size box to your registry and mark it as purchased, then use your gift purchase log as your receipt. Or you can just take the box in and say you don't have the receipt, they'll use your driver's license to give you an in-store credit.
  • At Target you get $70.00 worth of items a year that you can return without a receipt (they figure it out per driver license).  I had something big to return, so my sister offered to use her ID so that in the future if I need to return little stuff like diapers, I still have the full $70, and so does the mister.

  • Thanks ladies!  I'm going to give Target a shot first and use Walmart as a last resort.

  • I would give Target and Walmart a shot as well. However, even if they do carry that particular brand/style, the store may not be able to return them in case it's a count that they don't carry. When I worked at BRU, people would try to return diapers, but we couldn't return some because they were returning say a 120 count of diapers when we only carried that kind in 104 count.

If those stores don't work, try calling the company - they may be able to tell you which stores carry the particular counts of diapers.
