16 weeks vs. 20 weeks gender reveal

I don't believe this topic has been mentioned yet. It is possible to find out the sex of your baby by getting a 3d/4d ultrasound outside of your doctor's office at 16 weeks. I have a handful of friends who have done this, and were able to invite their family in the room with them during the u/s. There are a ton of 3d/4d locations in my area, ranging from about $75- 200. This includes an u/s at 16 weeks and another u/s at either 32 or 36 weeks. They give you a 15 minute video to take home of the u/s and lots of pictures. DH and I are going to do this if my doctor's office is not doing a 16 week u/s. Anyone else not waiting until 20 weeks?

Yeah my best friend went in at 14 weeks and they told her boy. It was VERY sure that he is a BOY.

We got our 20 week u/s when I was 18 weeks.

I think 3D u/s are creepy so we'll wait the extra few weeks for the traditional u/s. I also wouldn't want my entire family there just in case ,Heaven forbid, there was something wrong with the baby that was uncovered during the u/s. I feel like that's not an experience or emotions that I'd want to share with someone other than DH.

I think the 3d u/s's done that early look creepy. We got a 3d u/s done last time around 30 weeks. We might do it around Christmas this year, but I don't really see the point in finding out the sex 4 weeks sooner.

I don't know when my OB will schedule my gender reveal u/s. My 16 week mark is Sept 29, and I think I'd like to know before 20 weeks. I can get an optional 4d u/s for $250, but again, not sure when. I think they suggest doing that in the 25-30 week range. I go for my first u/s next week and am going to try to go ahead and schedule my gender reveal u/s around 16-18 weeks. That one will be covered by insurance and my OB will give us a dvd video and digital images. The 4d u/s kind of creeps me out a little.

It depends on the position of the baby, but yes, you can find out the sex of your baby at 16 weeks. My husband and I are probably going to do that since I am impatient and don't want to wait until 20 weeks ;]

I'm on track to have my 20 week u/s at around 18 weeks, so I'm just going to wait for that. I'd like to do a 3D u/s at some point, but not until a little later on. I think they are super cool, but the early ones are a little creeptastic.

Not worth it to me. I will just wait for my doctor's office.

However- if baby was uncooperative and we can't find out the sex at 20 weeks, then I would pay for one at a 3D place.

The only 3D ultrasound place close to me, will not schedule you until you are atleast 26 weeks. I will find out the sex at my 20 week U/S and if they are not sure of it then I will def get a 3D one later on so I can be sure!

The place in my area said they can find out as soon as 14 weeks. I made an appointment for 15 weeks. They have a special its $85 and we are taking our parents. I think its exciting and the office is very nice and accomadating for a larger amount of people unlike the dr office. If they cant tell the gender when you come in they will give you another apointment to find out, so thats pretty awesome. I just really want to know the sex and we think it will be neat to involve the family.

During my first pregnancy, I actually thought I saw something during my NT scan at 12 weeks. Both the doctor and tech confirmed my suspicion and yep, I was later proven right:-) So, if you are very observant you may actually see something even before 16 weeks.

There's a place around here that will do it as early as 14 weeks for $59. I think I'll go at 16 weeks, it's worth that price to me!

ETA: I think it's so cheap because it's not 3D.

I actually just scheduled this appointment yesterday. As of September 17th we will find out the gender of Baby H. I'm very excited, and very impatient, so this is the perfect idea for us.

Weird, the ones around me are all money hungry and will offer gender ultrasounds for as early as 14 weeks. That seems a little too early IMO.

We have the 3D/4D u/s place near us, too, that do various packages between $79-$250 and can do gender as early as 16 weeks. We plan to do one closer to 20 weeks but I'm not sure if our OB office also includes a gender u/s. We go in next week for a financial appt and to meet with the CNM again so I'll find out then.

We did one with DD at 16 weeks. The 3D does look a little creepy but I was very anxious and feel like to be "fair" we should do the same with this LO. Plus I know DH is very anxious to know if we are having a boy this time. The place we went to was reasonable... like $60 and then I went back at 32 weeks and DD had her hand over her face. They scheduled us to come back a couple weeks later but she still had her hands over her face and had dropped more so it was harder to get good images of her. I had a very good experience with the place we went to.

Ask around and price compare. Sometimes they run specials too.

Our anatomy scan will be between 18-19 weeks, so we're just doing that one. I had a 3D u/s with DD (around 30w) and it wasn't worth the money IMO.

We'll just stick to the anatomy scan that will be around 18 weeks. I can think of other things that I would rather spend money on. At the halfway point, I think you get the best pictures any way. I had an ultrasound around 32 weeks for possible placenta previa and couldn't see as well.

I'm pretty impatient and really want to know, so if I can find a place that isn't insanely expensive, I might go in a few weeks early to find out the sex. I don't know about 3D though, I hear those are best later in pregnancy, so we'll see how badly I want to know what LO looks like

LOL! Definitely not 40, but I intend to invite my family and some friends. I'd get to be behind a curtain in my own leather recliner with a private screen so no one gets to see my belly being slimed with goo. :P

The machine at my doctor's office can do regular and 3D/4D. My doctor just switches to 4D during the u/s. I wouldn't pay for an early 3D/4D one because they aren't fat enough for it to be cute. 4 weeks isn't that long to me to wait and find out the sex. With DD I found out around 18.5 weeks.
