I had Parker at the playground today and he was crawling and pulling himself up on stuff...so I don't think we can hold out on shoes any longer. What did you buy? How did you figure out their size? Do they have to have a soft sole?
We plan to buy shoes soon. If you have a Stride Rite near you, they will measure LO's foot for you. I think we're going to get Robeez, since they come so highly recommended.
eta- soft leather sole is recommended b/c it will mold to the shape of LO's foot & won't cause any foot problems.
We haven't bought any yet. We had some size 3's that someone gave us as a gift, all soft cloth material. But I think he's pretty much grown out of them. He's got chubby little feet.
My friend gave me some converse in size 4 at my baby shower, but those have a really hard sole, and that's about the size he is now. So I doubt he'll get much use out of them, bummer.
My mom just bought me some sandals from Carters in size 5, but it'll probably be winter by the time he grows into them.
So, needless to say, we haven't had much luck with useful shoes yet. We just keep putting them off since he just started pulling up and he's mostly inside still. Or just crawling around in the grass at our house.
we've always had shoes and sandals for griffin. he had newborn soft soles but he grew out of those fast. the hard soled shoes and sandals hes wearing now are size 5 i think.
We bought shoes at the beginning of the summer when he wanted to stand all of the time. For summer I got him some soft-soled sandals and I've picked up a couple of pairs of Robeez and See Kai Run shoes for the winter and bigger sizes. I just took LO in to the store with me the first time and tried them on him. He has ENORMOUS feet, they're bigger than my 15 month old nephews. gah!

aren't we supposed to wait until they walk, not just stand? Don't they need to feel the ground with their feet to learn to walk? (I'm not judging -- genuinely asking because I don't know.)
That is why the soft soled shoes are recommended. The leather bends and moves with their foot so it is almost like they are wearing nothing at all. It just protects their tiny feet from rough and hot surfaces.

never thought about that but it does make sense.
griff only wears shoes when we go out and its more of an accessory to look cute lol. when hes in the house hes barefoot or in socks. so hopefully i havent stunted him walking skills yet =P
I bought white sandals but they're more for looks in church. For this fall, when she's walking more, I plan to get ballet type flats with really soft soles.
