The can said to ask your dr. about using boiled water to prepare formula. MIL says it's because boiling water gets rid of the hydrogen, which can cause gas. That sounds a little off to me, but I don't know...I've been using Poland Spring, and now I'm wondering if I need to call the dr. & ask her?
Re: Why does formula say to use boiled water?
Because the instructions were written by a man who has no idea just how much time a busy mom *doesn't* have in a day to goof around with bottle-making.
Kidding, of course. We use filtered tap water with our pedi's blessing, and bottled when we travel. Never boiled it a day in my life.

And that really doesn't make sense--if you got rid of the hydrogen, you'd be left with oxygen, since that's all water is made of. You know, good old H2O?

I am a chemist and we boil water to make it carbon dioxide free.
Maybe this is why??
Boiling the water kills off the bacteria and stuff that can be found in tap water. I always boil mine because I'm paranoid of another Walkerton incident. (E-Coli in the tap water killed a couple people and made 1000's sick!)
The thing is I don't find it takes any more effort than regular water. I just boil the kettle after I'm done making the current bottle - so it will be cool enough by the time I make the next one.
