Forgive me if this has been asked but I havent been on the bump since LO was born. The Lactation Consultant told me today that he is having trouble latching because he is tongue tied. She suggested that I see my pediatrician to have it evaluated and possibly clipped.
Were supposed to go in tomorrow and if the doctor thinks that he is tongue tied, they will do the procedure there in the office. Has anyone else experienced a tongue tied baby and did you decide to clip or not to clip? I think the word "clip" is scaring me and LO is only a week old. Im just trying to gather as much information as I can so that I can make this decision. Thanks!
Re: re post from breastfeeding board: tongue tie--has anyone experienced this?
butting in...
My first had this issue. It was at her 1 week appointment that i had her pedi clip it. BEST THING EVER!!!! She latched on great, but not right. I dreaded BFing, and had been told that it really was uncomfortable for a while until you were used to it. But i knew somethig else was wrong. It was excrutiating pain. Like i was kicking my toes into the coffee table the whole time she nursed.
Basicaly her tongue didnt come out far enough so she was really latching with her gums and mashing my nipples. It was terrible.
Have them check your lo out, and if need be, clip it. It took all of 3 seconds and 1 itty bitty drop of blood. No biggie. Best of luck to you both!
The moms I've talked to with babies that were tongue tied said that getting it fixed saved their breastfeeding - that it was like getting a whole new happy baby.
I wouldn't hesitate at all if it was my baby. I'd get it done ASAP.

I have heard that not getting the tongue tie issue fixed (ie clipped) can make it harder for kids/adults to make the correct movement with their tongues to speak w/out a lisp. They cannot connect to the roof of their mouths so they cannot properly make the d, t and other consonant sounds w/out the lisp.
