tongue tie-- has anyone experienced this?

Forgive me if this has been asked but I havent been on the bump since LO was born. The Lactation Consultant told me today that he is having trouble latching because he is tongue tied. She suggested that I see my pediatrician to have it evaluated and possibly clipped.

Were supposed to go in tomorrow and if the doctor thinks that he is tongue tied, they will do the procedure there in the office.  Has anyone else experienced a tongue tied baby and did you decide to clip or not to clip? I think the word "clip" is scaring me and LO is only a week old. Im just trying to gather as much information as I can so that I can make this decision. Thanks!

    I am having a similar issue. LO was also born with a tongue tie. He thankfully has been able to latch but has had other issues related to this tt: he breaks the latch and swallows a lot of air resulting in painful gas which upsets him. I am hoping to get the frenulum clipped tomorrow after a lot of research. Apparently it is painless (less painful than an ear pierce) and LO is able to latch immediately after. There may be a few drops of blood but it is minimal. Apparently, it is much easier to do when they are young. Some babies are able to stretch this out on his/her own but those who aren't in addition to BF issues, can experience speech impediments, inability to lick icecream, french kiss etc. TT is hereditary and you will likely find someone in your family with this.

    I posted yesterday on this board (subject: tongue tie?) and got several responses from women who have had their baby's tongue clipped and the feedback was all positive and it apparently has made a world of difference with BFing for those women.

    Good luck to you tomorrow. I am sick about doing this to my 1 month old but feel it's the best for us and to continue BFing.

    We have had mixed opinions on whether DS is tongue tied or not.  The pediatrician in the hospital said he was good as well as the LC we saw there.  At our one week appointment our pediatrician said his frenulum might be ever so slightly short.  Shortly after that a second LC said it was definitely short, but as long as he was nursing and gaining that we didn't need to worry about it, just watch it.  So, for now we are watching and waiting with hopes he will stretch it on his own.  I honestly think its getting better already.  If he develops any problems or if we knew for sure it was bad we would absolutely get it clipped.  Its one of those things that is easier to do the younger they are and it really is relatively painless with virtually no recovery time.

    Just wanted to let you know that my LO had a "slight to moderate" tongue-tie  and we did try to "work it out" but ended up getting it clipped at about 2 weeks (I think).  It made A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE and I wish I had done it sooner.  It's quick, relatively painless (my LO recovered right away... didn't miss a beat) and I would recommend it to ANYONE who's LO has a tongue-tie.

     Same here - my LO with tongue tie was really tearing me up nursing - I ended up with bleeding nipples.  IMMEDIATELY after the procedure, which was quick and easy, he was nursing better.

    My Jaxson was tt too. We had to wait until 8 months because it was too thick and finally thinned out a little. No big deal, we were in and out of ent in 30 minutes. He could nurse and eat baby food the same day.
