What Say You Bumpies?

My SIL is trying to start a small photography business and has been taking pics of her kids, as well as some "artsy" kind of pics (like of gardens/trees/sunsets/etc.) to build a portfolio so people can see her work.

She posted some of her "work" on a site called "Redbubble.com" where photographers can sell their photos.

She posted the link on FB and I went to check it out and noticed that she had a pic of her daughter up there for sale...I was like "WHOA!" and I messaged her on FB like "Hey, glad to see you got your redbubble up and running!  Smile but I just was thinking, is it a great idea to have L___'s pic up there??  It's an open site isn't it, and I wouldn't want some weirdo to buy your kid's pic for weirdo purposes, know what I mean? Smile "  She seemed to get defensive/mad about it, and I let it drop, but I wanted to ask..........was I out of line to be paranoid? Or to mention it to her?

Re: What Say You Bumpies?

  • My brother has his own photo business and LO's pictures on are on his website.  But they always have a water mark on them with copywrite info.

I would probably be a little annoyed to if he put them on a sight where others could buy them, especailly without my permission.

  • Yikes, I don't think I would want my LO's pic on an open site.

  • I mean, it's her kid, so she can do what she wants i guess.  But 1) there is no watermark on any of the pics...I don't think she knows how to do that (and I'm afraid to give that advice after how defensive she got over this LOL).  2) she said she put it up there so family could buy prints of it....but i'm thinking in my head "So e-mail them the pic and they can have it printed at CVS or Costco or whatever....don't put your kid's photo up for the world to see/buy!".

  • I had to re-read that...I think if it is her kid she can do what she wants.  Now if it was my kid that would be a whole other story.

If she doesn't know how to watermark, she should not be trying to start a photography business. It's one of the easiest things to do.

That made me LOL.....I didn't mention in my OP that my SIL is definitely NOT the sharpest crayon in the box.
