December 2011 Moms

Anyone else surprised at how little they are showing?

I am just over 20 weeks and have just a bit of a rounded bump.  It's much less apparent if I am sitting down and before I eat.  I am tall-5'9 and somewhat thin-my pre pregnancy weight was 140.  I guess I always thought by 20 weeks I would be super pregnant but that is obviously not the case.  Maybe I am just naive.  I had my a/s last week so I know the baby is fine-it was measuring 10oz at 19 weeks.

Anyone else surprised at how little they are showing by the half way point?

  • I thought I'd be bigger at 20 weeks too. I have watched a lot of videos of A/Ss and everyone else's bellies look so huge compared to mine. Plus according to the scale I have gained 12 lbs, but I couldn't tell you WHERE I gained it....

  • I'm about your height and didn't wear maternity clothes until after my a/s with my first.  Shorter people and people that have been pregnant before tend to show earlier :)

  • I totally feel the same way in regards to weight.  I have gained 16 and I am not sure where it has gone either.

  • I thought I'd be bigger. I have a small bump, but I can usually hide it pretty easily with the clothes I already have. Minus the pants (I've borrowed pants from my bigger sister and for the most part they work)

  • I'm kind of surprised because I got big fast but I feel like I havent changed in size in the last month and a half-- baby is definitely growing and is actually measuring a week ahead (15 oz at 20 weeks exactly) and I finally started gaining weight so I'm not too sure where its all going Huh? I'll probably wake up one day and all the baby growth and weight gain will have come out of nowhere lol

  • I'm pretty small yet. I'm getting pretty irritated when people ask me: "are you sure you're that far along??"

    Yes, you idiot, I'm sure.

At my a/s last week I was measuring right on track (20w2d) and baby already weighed 14oz. So I know everything is good, I'm just not showing much yet.

I've only gained 1lb, and it's all baby at this point. I'm 5'9" and started at 135lbs, then lost 12 due to m/s and I have a longer torso, so baby has a lot of room to hide I guess.

People are STILL telling me I don't look pregnant, even though I clearly have a baby belly!  I have a picture, but don't know how to insert lol.

I even asked the doctor at my 20 week visit, she said I am perfectly fine, he's growing right on track and my uterus is fine!

Yep. This is my second, and I expected to grow faster this time. I actually do think my belly has grow a little faster, but I am still wearing (some of) my regular clothes, and can hide my pregnancy easily. Just had a meeting with a client yesterday wearing regular clothes, and I'm positive that he didn't have the slightest suspicion that I'm pregnant. And I can fit into some tiny pants that I grew out of super quick last time. I think my hips may have grow more last time.

I'm super long waisted. I think the baby just has a lot of room to hide.

  • I felt that way with my first baby.  I barely had a bump for the longest time... Fast forward to #4 and, well, it's very apparent....love those relaxed ab muscles Indifferent

I was freaking out last week, because I am 19 weeks with twins, and almost no bump, and then a few people commented on it and I was even more concerned, so i asked my doctor if they were growing well and all, and he said yes so that all that matters

Like you i am tall too, 5'10'' so we hide better/have a bigger oven

  • I'm surprised how my bump seems to fluctuate day to day. One day I can see it sticking out past my boobs, the next it's hiding under them again. Like peek a boo.

  • Me! I'm almost 22 weeks, and I've finally started to get a pretty noticeable bump. Nothing at 20 weeks though! I know with FTMs it takes longer to show though. I just want to look pregnant, not fat haha

  • Yes! I think I was super naive and thought  by this point I'd have a buge baby bump.  I do  have a little one, but definitely not what I expected to have by this point. When we went to pick up our gender reveal cake on Saturday, the lady told me I didn't even look pregnant.
  • I expected to be obviously pregnant to strangers by now but I only have a little bump. People who know me know that I am showing because of baby but someone asked me just this morning how far along I was and when I told them they were like, "Are you sure? .... Are you POSITIVE?". I just laughed. Maybe it is because I am 5'8 and started out at 140 lbs and have a longer torso for baby to 'hide out'. As long as doc says everything is okay, its ok with me :)

  • My eye doctor today made the comment that I don't look like I'm almost 4 months pregnant. Guess gaining only 3lbs could have something to do with it.
  • Yes. I'm much smaller than I was with my first, but I also feel like I am carrying side-to-side v. out in front. Weight gai is pretty much the same as it was with #1 (about 1 lb) and honestly, if you didn't know I was pregnant, you couldn't tell right now

  • I am not showing at all, my regular clothes still fit and are even a bit big. I know they say first time moms show later but this is my second and I showed earlier than this with my first. I am however about 20lbs lighter than when I got pregnant the first time. I'm also tall so I suppose that has something to do with it. I'm ready to pop already, I'm tired of hearing ,"wait, you're pregnant? You don't look pregnant at all."
  • I'm not showing anywhere close to what I thought I would be at this time either.  I'm also tall (5'7") and believe it's because there is more room for baby to go verse someone smaller.  My a/s scanned showed the baby right on track (slight bigger) and I've gained 13 lbs, again right on track.  At first I was concerned but I'm acutally happy hoping I won't be super sized in the 9th month.  :)

  • I'm pretty small too.  I can tell my belly is getting bigger but I can still hide it in certain clothes.  I am also 5'9" and was about 150lbs before pg, I lost 10lbs due to m/s and at my 19wk a/s I had finally gained it all back.  So as of then I hadn't actually gained any weight except for what I had already lost.  Our LO was measuring 11oz at 19w0d so he's right on track where he should be.  He has lots of room to grow so that's probably why it's taking me longer to really show, oh and this is also my first pg.
