Frequency of OB appts w/ twins?

My OB didn't really give me a straight forward answer on this... I've had 3 appts w/ u/s at 7, 9, and 11 wks and now said not to come back for a month. I'm glad everyone is healthy but I'm being greedy and want my every 2 week appts back! For a healthy twin pregnancy, how often did you go?

I remember w/ my singleton I went every month until ?28 weeks, then every 2 weeks, then every week once at term. Thanks!

Re: Frequency of OB appts w/ twins?

  • theres another similar post on here tonight. Im guessing it has to do with the type of twins we all have since there seem to be alot of different schedules with OBs for us all. all of 2nd tri I have been going to Peri/MFM every other week but I'll now start once a month since all has gone well, my twins are mono/di. Even still the Peri said last week my OB may decide to see me more than monthly but I won't know till I see her in a couple of weeks.

  • I had Mo/Di twins and I had a Dr. appt. once a month along with an ultrasound. At 30 weeks I went to both every 2 weeks. At 35 weeks I had both every week. and at 36 weeks I went every 3 days.

  • every 4 weeks from conception to 24 weeks - had an ultrasound at every visit because I was a high risk pregnancy (SCH)

biweekly to 32 weeks - had an ultrasound at every visit

weekly from 32 weeks to birth (38w, 3d) - had an ultrasound and an NST at every visit

  • Ditto pp; scroll down a bit, the question of normal monitoring for a twin pregnancy will give you lots of answers. :)

  • Every month sounds normal at this point.  I started seeing an MFM at 18 weeks, so at that point it was OB once a month and MFM once a month until the complications started happening.
  • It really depends on what kind of twins you have and if you have complications.

I had di/di twins but I had several complications. So I was going every 2 weeks until 26 weeks, then weekly. Then 3 times a week for doc and NSTs. I only saw a peri once because my OB was part of a clinic which had a high risk committee to talk about patients like me. I gather I was a hot topic for awhile! LOL

  • I see my OB once a month still and also see the Peri once a month. I had them schedule it so every two weeks I see *someone* but they didn't even mention going to every two weeks.

  • I went every four weeks until 24 weeks then every two weeks until 32 weeks and then weekly after that. I saw my peri for growth scans every four weeks from 20 weeks until 32 weeks then they had me come back three weeks later with my last scan scheduled for three weeks later on the day before my c-section was scheduled. I had to call them from the hospital to cancel my appt since my little girl decided she was ready to come out and she was taking her brother with her. Lol

  • With my girls it was 5.5 weeks, 6.5 weeks, 9 weeks then every 4 weeks until 30 weeks, then it was every week or every other week until delivery ( depending on the results of my NST's). Every visit was also and U/S.

  • Oh my gosh. I think this will vary a LOT depending on your doctor... and the type of twins you are carrying. Mine are Mo/Di... meaning they share a placenta and a sac... but have a thin membrane between them in the sac... Also meaning they are identical.

found out at 12 weeks..  We had very sporadic appointments after that as I was sent to a couple different doctors. Finally ended up with my current OB at the 19 week mark.

20-30 weeks:  I saw an MFM biweekly, my OB biweekly(in between weeks)

30-34 weeks: same as above... but I had to start going to the hospital for weekly non stress tests.

34+ weeks: biweekly MFM appointments, weekly OB appointments and weekly non stress tests.

If you're not sure what an MFM is... it is a maternal fetal medicine specialist... A lot of women expecting multiples only have to see them once... or not at all... But because of our babies sharing a placenta... as well as one baby having a 2 vessel cord we've been seeing them constantly for monitoring.

  • It depends on the situation. I was visiting a Perinatologist every week from 11w-20w because my girls were sharing a placenta. They were growing so well they let me come in once a month until I got to 32w I was going in every week again plus my weekly OB appts.
