Infertility

Trigger tonight!

I just got the call from my nurses! I'm excited and nervous all at the same time! I hope the 2WW flies by as fast as the past few weeks have!

Quick question. I have pregnyl for my HCG shot and it is a 10,000 unit powder. She told me to mix the powder with 2cc of the liquid but only draw up/inject 1cc of the mixture. Has anyone else triggered with half the dosage?

She read off a ton of follicle sizes to me (I couldn't even write them all down there were a lot and she was going fast) so I wonder if that is the reason for the half dosage? She also warned me to start loading up on electrolytes and protein for control of any OHSS.

  • Good luck on your trigger!  I don't know about the doseage, but I'm sure they have their reasons.

I don't like gatoraide, so I drank a lot of coconut water and smart water for electrolytes.  Also, after ER I had my favorite treat, movie theatre popcorn! I figured I could use the salt!

Rest up and take care of those eggies! Good luck!!!

  • I think the dosage is based off of your E2 levels.  I reviewed trigger instructions today with my RE and they gave me 3 different directions:

    • all powder, one cc in, one cc out (10,000)
    • all powder, two cc in, 1.5 cc out (7500)
    • all powder, two cc in, 1 cc out (5000)
I asked which would I be doing and he said, based on my E2 to that point (1500 on Friday), I would probably be 10,000 but they would verify after getting my E2 level that day.  They would only cut it down if my E2 had really, really jumped and I was at risk for OHSS.  Hope that helps!

  • For IVF 2 I had really high e2 levels.  I was put on dostinex for fear of OHSS and triggered with a half dose.

    Good luck.

  • Just wanted to say good luck.. I have triggered with ovidrel and my meds packages have always contained 2 ovidrel shot but at trigger they have only told me to do one ovidrel injection.  For me I believe it is because of high E2 levels and concerns around OHSS.  Good luck!

  • I was told only to take a certain portion of the mixed meds for my trigger also. They said it had something to do with "my med cycle" and levels. I didn't worry too much about it because they were the ones who knew what they were talking about. Everything worked out great for us. Good luck!!! The next couple of weeks will seem to be go slow, but before you know it two months will have passed. Good luck with everything and don't forget to relax and take care of yourself!!
  • Good luck!!! And yeah, I think they halved your trigger likely due to high E2 levels.

Thank you for this! It definitely eased my mind!

Also thanks for all the responses! I think the trigger went well. Of course I'm nervous I did it wrong or something. My cousin who is a nurse helped me mix it and as we were pulling back the syringe to load the dosage it started bubbling out of where the needle is attached. Hopefully that doesn't mean there was something wrong but I was still able to get the dosage and do the injection!
