Nursing attire in winter

Hello.  I was hoping to gleam some early insight.  I'm having a winter baby and was wondering what clothing you wore to help with nursing.  Wearing a tank in winter is a bit chilly to me (even with a layered cardigan).  TIA.

  • My son was born 1/1 I wore a bunch of sweaters with zippers and buttons.  They are nice for easy access.

  • I'd suggest layers.  I didn't have a baby in winter, but I nursed Drew through the winter.  I usually wore a nursing tank with a shirt over it and then maybe a button down sweater or zip up hoodie over that if I was really cold.  Then you just lift the shirt, unsnap the tank and nurse.  Nothing to it.

  • since i'm a sahm mom that makes my clothing options easier but:

a nursing tank and either a zip up hoodie or button down sweater

Also remember that you may have to keep the temp higher than you normally would (if you usually keep it cool in the winter) b/c baby needs to be comfy. So our thermosat is between 72 and 74 all year.

  • While you're first learning, I'd go with nursing tanks under a zip hoodie or sweater.

Once you get the hang out it, just wear your regular clothes with a nursing bra or tank underneath.  I wore all my regular clothes - I never bought anything specific for nursing.  You can just lift it up to get at what you need.  : )

The only things I couldn't wear were my regular dresses.

  • My son was born in November. I wore a lot of tanks with cardigan sweaters over the top.

  • I live in N. Florida so wearing the nursing tank and a cardigan was enough for me.  Or a nursing tank and just whatever long-sleeved shirt over it worked, too.  When they are small enough that they won't mind being under a nursing cover- if you're out and worried about exposure- you can wear pretty much whatever is most convenient (and warm) for you.

  • I agree with everyone that layers are your friend. Your should also check out Undercover Mamas for when you don't want to wear a full nursing tank under a sweater.
