Hi ladies. This is my first time posting on this board. My daughter Alianna Jade was born 07.23.11. She is jaundice and lost well over a lb after birth. We have had to take her for tests and to the pediatrician everyday since being discharged from the hospital. My milk came in very quickly and I began to breastfeed, Since she is sick and the doctors said she lazy and not getting enough from my breasts. We tried the syringe with the tube but she was still not getting enough milk. We are now pumping and feeding her from a bottle.
I understand this is the best thing for my baby and I want her to get better. I am devasted though to think she may not want to feed from my breast again. Breastfeeding is very important to me and I am just so upset over this.
The great news is that her weight is starting to go up and her biliruben level is starting to come down since we started to bottle feed her with my breastmilk.
Is there anyone out there who has had a similar experience and was able to breastfeed after having to bottle feed? Thanks for any advice.

Re: from my breast again?
Congrats on your LO! Glad to hear that she's doing better. and p.s. 7/23 is my DH's birthday :-)
I don't have personal experience but I've been on these boards long enough to read about it all the time. I also have a friend IRL who started with formula bottles and went to breast a few weeks later. And finally, Lizzy was an extremely lazy/sleeper eater for the first two weeks. She lost quite a bit of weight but wasn't jaundiced so so I kept BFing (with regular weight checks at the doc). She perked up on her own by three weeks old and we've been fine ever since. It's definitely possible!
If possible, I'd suggest talking with a certified LC to help you come up with a system where LO can still nurse as much as possible and then you use a bottle to supplement. It sounds like your LO will latch and eat, just maybe isn't getting enough quite yet. That's not uncommon and as she gets just a little bit older I"m guessing she'll start to be much more efficient at the breast. Until then, you can still be nursing, just giving the bottle too. As LO continues to gain weight and get over the jaundice, you could supplement less and less until you're just BFing. Good luck!
