If their latch is correct, it's not painful. Their tongue covers their bottom teeth. Sometimes when DD was getting a new tooth, it would hurt here and there for a day or two. It was like she had to figure out how to adjust to it. But for the most part, I didn't have trouble. I nursed her until she was 16 months and she had 9 teeth by then.

Wasn't painful for me. Ds bit me once I think, but we stopped the nursing session and he never did it again. The part that hurt the most was when he would "graze" against my nipple as the tooth had just broken through. Those teeth are razor sharp (need to be to break through the gums). Anyway, it was a very minor bump in a 17.5 month road (I nursed with 16 teeth).

We started getting teeth at 4 months. The worst part is generally while he's teething since his latch seems to get worse at the time so I have to correct it a lot. He's also bitten me a few times while teething, which does hurt. I just pull him into me to get him to release, say ow that hurts mommy and remove him from the breast. After 30 seconds to a minute I'll back on. Usually it is only one bite per tooth and the last 4 or so we haven't had a bite, so he remembers pretty quickly not to bite. We're at 16 months and only have the two year molars left to come in.
