Toddler Twin Phobia?

My 20 month old toddler has a major fear of twins.  It is the weirdest thing because he is great with other children but for whatever reason, twins freak him out.  He holds onto me crying when we are anywhere close to them.  This has happened every time we have tried to hang out with our friends that have twins.  Yesterday it happened again with a new set of twins that we met at a playgroup.  It is becoming a little difficult to have much of a social life with our friends with twins.  Has anyone experienced this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Are they identical twins?  My guys are fraternal and I've never had anyone that was afraid of either of them.  On the other hand, one of them is afraid of other kids that get to close to his face and are really loud.  Is that a possibility?

    I was going to ask the same thing as pp.  Identical?  Maybe seeing the same face twice freaks him out?  Like he doesn't understand how they can be different people, but yet the same?  I really have no experience, just a thought.

    I was just going to ask the same thing, too! :) Mine are also fraternal but they look completely different and have never noticed other kids having a reaction like that to them. But I can see if they're identical that some really little kids might not know what to make of that at first?
