My child is scared sh!tless of elevators

I was running a bunch of errands today with LO and some of them included going in elevators at various places and malls. But everytime we would go in an elevator LO would start screaming and crying and clinging on to me or the stroller and actually start shaking in terror. I have no idea where this has come from but he was terrifed.

So, what do I do? Keep trying elevators in hopes that he grows out of it? Avoid elevators? I don't know what to do. LO is pretty laid back and I have never seen this side of him before.

Thoughts?

Katie freaked out the first time she was in an elevator.

So the next time, I made sure to crouch down in from of her stroller and talk to her the whole time about what was going on.

It seems to have helped.

Colin absolutely freaked out everytime he was in an elevator from the time he was about 3 months old until almost 2 years. Lucky for him, we didn't need to be in them very often, and it seems like he just grew out of it. He's fine with them now.

So, no real advice other than give it time.

My niece went through several phases from about 9 months to 18 months where she would suddenly be terrified of things she used to love or not notice. The swing set, elevators, etc. They were just phases that she grew out of. I would suggest avoiding elevators for a short time if possible, and then trying again in a few weeks. Good luck!
