no problem with naps but SCREAMS with bedtime?

omg, DD does fine for naps. Lies in her crib and goes right to sleep. At night for bed time, she used to roll around a bit, maybe fuss or cry for a short time, and then go to sleep.

For the past week or so, she has been screaming bloody murder, the worst scream I have ever heard from her, for at least 20-30 mins. I have given it that long, then gone in to see her (in case it was a dirty diaper or because of teething).

I have eliminated all possibilities other than she is just mad.......so I am listening to her now (it has been 45 mins), and not going back in to do anything for her tonight. I did go in and just tell her it is ok, kissed her and said night, but she cried even harder :-(   It is heartbreaking, but she has to get over this.......

Is this just a phase? anyone else experienced this?

  • Could she be needing a later bedtime? Jack started really crying at bedtime a week or so ago, so we pushed his bedtime from 7 - 7:30 and he no goes to sleep just fine.

My DS does the same thing. He will fuss for maybe 2 min and then fall asleep for his naps, but bedtime--forget about it. He will not fall asleep unless I lay down with him until he falls asleep. No clue why, but it gets him to go to bed. I never considered the later bedtime because he's already going to bed between 8-8:30. I thought that was late enough. Anyway, you're not the only one! Good luck :)
  • DD does the same thing. I usually tell her night night and she starts freaking out. We let her cry for 10 min to see if she will calm down, because sometimes she does. When she doesnt we pull her back out and rock for 10 min with a movie on. She's usually out like a light in 5.
