I'm going for my Glucose Test tomorrow morning. I was told by my doctor just eat a light breakfast. Any advice for the actual test? Flavor suggestions? So pretty much I go to the hospital, drink the sugary drink and then sit in the waiting room for an hour? And then they take my blood? is that it?
Re: Glucose Test Advice
I was actually not told ahead of time when mine would be, so I didn't do anything different! I had a bagel for breakfast, (which I don't know if that was good or bad!)
But yes, basically, the lab gives you that sugary drink (kind of tasted like flat orange soda/pop to me), (and it might make you feel nauseous--it did to me), and then you sit for an hour in the waiting room, feeling sick. The lab took 3 vials of blood from me and then I left. Pretty simple.Bring a book or a magazine to read so you aren't bored from waiting.
I'm curious about my results (took it Monday) but they haven't gotten back to me yet so that might be a good sign!
I had my first one done early at 20 weeks (I have PCOS and its more common in women with PCOS). I just did it after my normal dr appt at 330pm.
I stayed away from carbs and anything sugary that day- I figure the drink in itself is enough to raise red flags, and I wanted to go in with as "blank a slate" as possible. I usually eat carbs during the day (its the only thing that holds off my heartburn), so that was the only major change I made. It worked for me- I passed with flying colors....I'll take it again at 28 weeks.
