do I let her sleep?

My DD has been consistantly STTN since about a month old.  We are pretty routine with her last feeding being at 10 and she goes in her crib around 10:30.  She's fallen asleep now at 9pm.  Do I let her sleep and hope she sleeps till her normal 6 am?  Or do I risk the chance of her waking me up at 4 or something?  Do I try to wake her up at 10 to feed her one last time?  I don't know how long she'll sleep if I don't let her....  I don't know....  maybe she'll wake up for her last feeding on her own... but for future refernce WWYD?

Re: do I let her sleep?

  • I would let her sleep but be prepared to get up earlier than usual with her. Hopefully she will go back to sleep if she does wake. GL!

If she's already in her pj's and in her crib, I'd leave her. But if she just fell asleep somewhere random, I'd treat it as a catnap and wake her for the usual routine. As for future reference, I'd start moving her bedtime earlier each nith by 10 or 15 minutes. C used to be a night owl and wasn't in her crib until 11 or later, but we've slowly started moving the routine earlier. She's now down by 9:30 but started BEGGING for an earlier bedtime right about at 4m. She can barely stay awake to nurse! So we're still moving bedtime earlier with the goal of having her down by 8 or 8:30. She sleeps straight until 7 or 8 usually.

  • Thanks... I've heard that the more they sleep, the more they want to sleep, and the longer they sleep....  Are you BFing or Formula?  Just curious.  DD goes pretty long for being BF so I'm just wondering if that makes a difference.

  • I'd much rather deal with a baby waking up in the middle of the night for a feeding or a baby waking up a bit earlier than normal, instead of disturbing a sleepy baby and possibly pissing him/her off for waking them up :)
  • I second what Klmorgan says. Both of my kids HATE being woke up!

  • This may be a fluke, or she may be moving her bedtime up on her own.  We used to just let DS hang out "napping" on us in the evenings (when he was eating every 2 hours... BF baby) We would then put him in his crib around 10 or 11 and hope he'd give us that 4 hour stretch.  One night, he never woke up after his 8 PM feeding so we just put him in his crib.  Ever since, he's had a self-given 8:00 bedtime.  We like it, because even though he wakes up around 4 to eat, we get a couple hours in the evenings baby-free.

  • If she's in her crib, I'd leave her.  That's just me though.  Jake went to bed around 10:30 last night and slept until 9!!  I was getting nervous.  Normally he's in bed at 9:30 and up around 7:30ish.
