How far are you from L&D?

I was driving to my OB appointment today, and was thinking about the drive to L&D when we have to make it. I was curious about how far you have to go.

For us, while there is a hospital closer to our house, the hospital where I will give birth is about a 25-30 minute drive from our house with no traffic. (We can probably do it in 20-25 if DH is driving. Wink)

  • Ours is 7 miles away and about 20 minutes with normal traffic. Probably 40 in rush hour.

  • It will depend on traffic.  Without traffic I can probably get there in about 15 minutes.  With traffic??  O goodness.  Anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour.  Let's hope I go into labor in the middle of the night!

  • 15 minutes with rush hour traffic. 5 or 10 with no traffic. Depending on which way we go.

  • Where are you going, tinshee?

I hope and pray this kid doesn't come during rush hour- we are going to B&W. No traffic- 25-30 mins. With traffic- 48 hours.

  • We're around 3.5 miles away from our birth center so its like a 10 minute drive, 15 minutes at the most.

  • about 20 minutes from home 15-20 from work. It's right in the middle between both!

  • Ours is 10-15 minutes away with no traffic. 30-40 with traffic, (I have ot get on the interstate and during rush hour people drive like retards and cause all kinds of accidents that tend to shut the road down basically) but I know the back roads to get there so as long as DH is willing to listen to me give him driving directions it shouldn't ever take us more than 30 minutes. My OB's office is at the hospital too.

  • About two blocks. Seriously, I could practically throw a rock and hit L&D. With my history of "OMG barely made it to the hospital" deliveries, this is probably a good thing.

DS asked me if I could walk to the hospital when I go into labor. :P

  • We live MAYBE 2 miles from the hospital.

30 minutes no traffic, 45 with.  Not terrible, and DH works there, so no trouble getting there for him.
  • We used to live about 10 minutes from the hospital. Last month we moved to a small town about 30 minutes from the hospital. I'm not *too* worried about the drive. As a FTM, there is a bit of worry there though.

  • 2 blocks away from my work and about 8 miles away from home. It takes about 8-10 minutes from home to the hospital. Traffic wouldn't really be a factor 'round these parts (hehe) but maybe 15 minutes tops if we hit it right at 5pm.

  • 5-15 minutes by taxi from home, depending on traffic and assuming no trouble getting a cab. If its like, 8:30 in the morning on a rainy day it might be faster to walk or take the subway because it can take forever. Work is another 5 minutes further, but if I go into labor at work I would ideally like to come home first for a while and get last minute organized. Even if my water breaks or something, I will prob come home first to shower and so DH can take the dog to daycare.

  • Oh man, I have you all beat!!! (Which I'm not sure is a good thing) lol

Our hospital is exactly 50 miles one way from us, which, because of back roads only, takes about an hour and 15 minutes to get to. DH can probably make it in about an hour (maybe a little less) if he rushed it and really sped, but then he runs the high risk of hitting deer. Not to mention the fact that there is fracking/gas drilling going on all over the place, so we always get stuck behind the damn dump trucks and water trucks, which can lengthen the drive. It's windy roads, so you have to wait for the perfect time to pass them in a no-passing zone, which gets very annoying (they only go about 35mph)..

  • depends on if the light is red or not.  i can see the hospital by looking out the window.  i think the longest it's taken us (including getting ds in the car) was about 5 min.

  • Ours is 35 miles away through construction and a major city. It took us an hour and fifteen minutes to get there for our hospital tour but I'm hoping we get there a little quicker when I'm in labor.

  • About 20 min, maybe more if traffic is bad. There are several closer hospitals, but this one was the best choice for a number of reasons. It's the main hospital for the university where I work, so it's just a short walk across campus from my office (convenient for my appointments).
  • about 10 minutes from our house.  But about 30 from where I work.  DH is TERRIFIED that I'm going to go into labor when I'm at work.  Because that means he's going to have to drive the 25 minutes it takes to get from base to where I work and then to hospital.

  • Like 10-15 minutes. And we're out here in the country so no traffic to deal with. Worse case scenario: we get stuck behind a tractor or an Amish buggy for a few minutes :)

  • I could probably walk to L & D from home if I had to, it's not more than 2 miles. Now if I go into labor at work its gonna be a 30-45 minute drive, depending on time of day.

Were about an hour from our birth center, but there are 2 hospitals on the way. So, just in case I dont make it for the hour Ive got a backup plan.

  • Forgot about work. Thats a tough one. Get up from my desk, walk down the hall, and take the elevator up 4 floors. Good to go. ;)
  • When I'm at work, I'm less than 5 minutes away from the hospital I am delivering at (I actually work at the other hospital in town).  From home, I'm more like 40 minutes from the hospital, hence why I am not looking to go out on leave before actually going into labor.

I'd say 10 min tops...Pretty much right down the major street that we live off of, which is awesome.

Now, if I were at work, that's a different story (plan to be working at home already around that time though)..but if I were at the office/warehouse, it would be more like...up to an hour, depending on the time of day. Maybe 45 min.

Ohhh Southern CA... where one route could take anywhere in the range of 20 min to hours, depending on the direction/time/traffic... lol

  • I am so glad I live in a semi-small town. L&D is literally 5 minutes from my house. I don't think I could handle having to drive 30 minutes or more to my hospital. Yesterday, when I went in because I was having contractions, I was so thankful that L&D wasn't that far away.

  • I'm only about 2 miles away from L&D. All of my family is about 2 hours away, though so if I go into labor and they can't get here I will be taking myself, so I'm happy that I'm so close.

50 miles from work. -_-. I hope I don't go into labor at work!

  • 25 minutes on some back roads - we will have to keep an eye out for deer if it is late at night!

We are the same; there is a hospital within 5 minutes, but that is not where I'm delivering. DH assures me that he will get us there in time ;)
