Baby Fighting Sleep

LO has been up and down the last 2 days-- I think her longest sleep stretch was 2 hours-- she normally sleeps at least one 5 hour stretch at night and a couple of 3 hour stretches during the day.

the last couple of days, she falls asleep, then 5 min later, she's up-- and you can see her "pop" her eyes open like she's trying to stay up. I've snuggled her on the couch, the bed, put her in her PnP, swing, bouncy seat, let her pass our nursing in the chair, in the bed-- no dice-- she's yawning like crazy and I'm about to pull my hair out!

DH is doing happiest Baby on the block behind me now and she's quiet, but still no sleeping....

help!!! How can I convince her how wonderful sleep really is?

Re: Baby Fighting Sleep

  • this happened to us and we started increasing her awake time after feedings. she now gets more play yard/tummy time to poop her out - she's a very alert baby. when she starts to get fussy or kick her legs consistently after having both time on tummy and back, we'd transition to naptime. i think the extra "workout" time was a big help for her. she still lays in her pnp or crib awake for a bit when put down but it's more content awake time until she falls asleep (there is some fussiness at first but it's really weak, lol). i think they always will fight it to a certain degree though. i agree, they don't seem to realize how wonderful sleep is! ;)

  • We started having to swaddle our LO and put him in his swing on his side with a paci just to take a nap.  He always fights his naps.  Otherwise, we've had days where he didn't nap at all....those were interesting.

My LO is down for his second nap today - this never happens!  It's usually a huge struggle all day.  The difference is I've swaddled him.  Usually we just swaddle for night time, but like pp some days he didn't nap at all and we were both going crazy.

  • My LO is doing this - he is definitely hitting the 6 week growth spurt.  He was up for *6* hours today (7-1).  He would doze and then pop his eyes open.  Nothing worked - the swing, the car, the swaddle, NOTHING would keep him asleep.  Your LO may be having her spurt a bit early OR like a pp said, she may be starting to "wake up".
