I was under the impression that Baby A would remain "A," the lower baby, and although they can flip, that positioning probably wouldn't change. The last week or two I've been having a really hard time distinguishing their positions, as I was feeling movements high on the side I knew Baby A (girl) was, and she was supposed to be low. Well, at growth ultrasound today, the tech was extremely confused until she realized Baby B (boy) not only flipped head down, but totally pushed his sister out of the way to present first. My doc said when both are head down, A and B can switch, it just doesn't happen that often. I guess he's determined to be the big brother, lol.
Both babies were measuring with good sizes, and now I have confirmation they are both head down, so I still have to make the decision to go vaginal (after severe tearing with DS) or C/S. Plan to talk more with my doctor about this next week and do some thinking, but now just celebrating a healthy girl and (albeit a bit pushy) boy.

This actually happened to me. Baby B (Christian) pushed his brother Baby A (Zach) out of the way. It was crazy because ALL of the u/s for Christian say "B", but his bracelet from the hospital is Baby A since he came out first. The same for Zach.
The only way we knew is because there has always been a size difference in them. We knew the smaller guy would be Christian, and the big guy would be Zach.
Well.....how would we even know they changed positions? Maybe the docs know better the sac positioning than I do, but I'm having 2 girls so my thought would be "oh both are head down now, great" and not even think any more about it. Interesting though.....we call baby A by one name and B by another already, but I don't think it really matters in the end if B were to happen to come out first.
Preemie ID DDs; then DS; then natural M/C; now due 10/17

I guess a lot of the significance must have to do with how the doctors treat the "A" versus "B" baby - my doctors are in the camp that assign the baby A or B, and track them according to their label to monitor growth, complications, etc. Do some doctors also just assign Baby A to whoever is presenting first, regardless of who h/she has been all along and if he/she has switched ? I'm just curious - like my doctor said, for B/G twins it's much easier to distinguish who's who and deal with the switch, obviously.
So it has happened to some of you - I don't know why I thought it couldn't happen; I think my doc might have mentioned they would stay in their positions awhile ago and I just believed that. We don't have identity issues, but we are getting used to the idea that the boy will be "older" when all this time we have been (mostly jokingly) making reference to the boy as the baby of the family.
D&HMom, I am very curious if their personalities will follow their behavior in utero, as your have!
