Man oh man, it seems like every time I leave the house people, strangers, just feel the need to make comments. no one has touched my belly or rubbed it yet, so we'll see if that happens.
it shocks me what people feel comfortable saying to a stranger! seriously. I would never ever ever say that stuff to someone I don't know, even someone I do know, I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings.
Here are some things I've experienced:
1) While waiting for a seat at a restaurant with my husband, a woman comes up to me, puts her hand on my shoulder and whispers in my ear "Suck in that stomach honey" and I turned around and looked at her, and she said, "Just joking, I know."
2) While in a store in the isles, I try to walk past this woman and she says loud to her husband as she's trying to get by me, "I'm just gonna get by this fat woman here." And I was like, "Jeez." And she said, "Just joking." And I said, "I was gonna say."
3) Out at another store, one of those people that stand outside asking for change for a charity, he says to me, "Let me guess, 8 or 9 months." And I said, "Actually, only 5." And he responds, so loud and totally shocked, "Whaaat? Yeah right. You must be carrying a really big baby then."
That time I almost started crying, haha, I think it's because of the hormones, but jeez, I feel so huge. I'm scared to leave the house bc it seems like anytime I do, ppl say something. I want to feel beautiful and pregnant, not be told I'm fat.
Here's a recent photo of me, not the greatest, but I haven't had many taken while pregnant, so this is it. I know my stomach sticks out a lot more than some people who are also 5 months pregnant. I want to enjoy it though, enjoy being and feeling pregnant, and not be told I'm fat. ![]()
Re: What's the craziest thing strangers have done/said to you?
You (and your bump) look gorgeous! Don't let other people get you down!
I think that for someone as far as me, that I look big compared to others too, but I'm trying to make the best of it and enjoy it.
DH and I went to a restaurant, and when they tried to seat us, they took us to a booth. "OH! Are you going to fit?" I just looked at her as I sat down with 6 inches between me and the table. She then laughed as if it was some big joke.

In my opinion you look very beautifully pregnant! People are rude. You said that at least people haven't started rubbing your stomach yet...LUCKY!!! I'm a couple days behind you but my belly just popped out a bit early. Since I have had people scream into my stomach to say hi to the baby and people I don't really know rub my stomach. Now I was fine with family and close friends rubbing my belly or cuing at the baby, but not strangers! I feel for you with the rudeness of others. I have gotten a lot of are you caring twins in there? Sometimes I think the hurtful things are worse coming from family. :S I guess all I am trying to say is that you aren't alone and you will probably get more comments as time moves on. Just ignore the rude ones as much as possible and remember how you feel about you and what your fellow bumpies say.
WOW rude! People suck. You look great. I'm in the same boat as you... I'm 17 weeks but my belly really sticks out, and even my mom was like... "woah that's big! are they sure there isn't two in there?" Yeah mom... positive... we had them check twice... and I'm not as tall (2 inches shorter than mom) or as wide (not in a mean way) as you.
UGH. I've also gotten the looks from strangers like "is she pregnant or fat?" and i just stare them down so they don't say anything haha. It's especially fun when I go to my husbands gigs (he's a guitarist in a band) and people are like... ummm... pregnant or beer belly????
Like I said... people suck and you look beautiful :-) Enjoy every moment!
you look wonderful. I hte that people feel like they can comment on your physical shape when hormones are ragging.
Throw it right back at em... if someone guesses at pregnancy (which is a huge no no) just say, oh gosh i sure hope so! the doctor says we aren't even able!!! that'll shut em up quick.
I was at a wedding this weekend and a woman overheard someone say I was pregnant. She then came up to me and asked how far along I was, I told her 18 weeks and she refused to believe me because I'm hardly showing. She kept asking if I was sure and if I'd been to a doctor because I only look 13 or 14 weeks. Really lady? Everyone's different and mind your business.
People can be so rude! I'm sorry they are saying that.
I am 17 weeks and this past week I have started to hear more comments. (usually on the side of NOT looking pregnant) One of my coworkers asked how far a long I was and after I told her she goes "Are you sure, you don't look pregnant at all!" I was wearing baggy mesh shorts and a t-shirt! I don't know if that was supposed to be a compliment or not!
I work at a golf course during summer break and they were talking about remodeling the bar area and give us about 4 more inches behind it. One of the old guys goes "That would be good, cause with Emily gaining all that weight we might need to give then at least 6!" at that I go "thanks that makes me feel so good!" I've only gained like 6-8 lbs!
I know people are trying to be funny but come on! I just tell myself,,,it has to be hormones!!!
grrrrr
You look beautiful!!! Really you do! And really people say things they shouldn?t... it?s like they are missing a filter when they talk to a pregnant woman.
I am 20 weeks and I can tell that my body is changing and depending on the clothes I am wearing so can others around me. A lady I work with weekly says "wow you are really popping out there" or I get " You can't tell you are 20 weeks"
May be weird but when I hear that from someone I always go to OK so I don't look pregnant I must look fat lol because my clothes are maternity clothes most of the time... or my regular clothes that are a little stretchy that I can still fit in to.
If a stranger ever makes comment about my weight, you better believe I would say something back. Heaven forbid my mom or husband would be there lol they might just chew the person out.
