I'm going back to work in September (teacher) and I'm trying to get the hang of this pumping thing. Currently I pump for about 7 minutes and get anywhere from 5-8oz total. I just pump until it stops flowing. I read other posts and it seems like others are pumping longer. Should I be pumping longer? How long do you pump, and how much do you get?
Re: How much do you get? Pumping Question
DD (5 years old) from IUI in 2012
TTC 3rd and final!: IUI #1 in progress!
I pump for 20 minutes about an hour after DS eats and get about 6 oz between the two sides.
When I started, I only did 10 minutes, and I've slowly gone up to 20. Now that I have a hands free bra, it's alot easier to do 20 minutes! I usually get a 2nd, sometimes even a 3rd let down in that time frame, so it's worth it to keep going!

I pump at least 15 min, sometimes up to 25. It's worth it to pump longer cuz like pp said, I get two sometimes three let downs. IF I pump right after they eat I get like 3.5-4 oz between the two (more on the left). If I pump in the AM, I'll get 5+oz between the two.
God bless those who get 6+!

Same for me
I'm pumping 3-4times a day for 20 minutes per session. I usually get 10 oz my first and last pumps. The rest I get about 7-10oz each time.
When you pump longer it can trigger your body to make more milk.
