Hello everyone.
My son's nose started running a few days ago, and now I have a sore throat, runny nose and a fever... I don't know if I feel sick from the cold or from the morning sickness any more...
On top of that, I ate a turkey sandwich today. It's been a while since I was pregnant with my son, and it just slipped from my mind that I'm not supposed to eat deli meat. I couldn't eat much this morning, so I was happy I felt hungry at lunch time and went to my favorite sandwich shop without thinking... It was delicious, but now I'm worried...
Thank you for listening...
Re: Having a cold and ate a turkey sandwich...
I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I hope it passes quickly.
Try not to worry about the turkey sandwich. I've had lunch meat quite a few times throughout my pregnancy.

I would call your doctor if you have a fever and take some tylenol. I hope it passes quickly!!
There is a tiny risk of listeria with cold cuts, but the risk is really low. When you're in the 1st tri the best thing for your baby is probably getting in whatever you can. Think of all the healthy protein, carbs, and fat you sent down to your LO. I would try to just let it go. I've had unheated turkey several times and some people don't avoid it at all. You're at much higher risk with unpasteurized dairy. ((HUGS))

Sorry you're feeling sick. That's never fun, especially not during pregnancy!
As far as the sandwich, my doctor has told me the risk is so small, he doesn't even see it as a risk. I have eaten deli sandwiches on occasion throughout this pregnancy (and the one with DS, too) with never an issue. I've had the occasional hot dog, too. I would say don't beat yourself up over the sandwich - I am glad it was delicious!
I'm so sorry you're sick - it really stinks when you're already tired from first trimester!
Don't worry too much about the sandwich; my SIL is an acupuncturist, takes everything health very seriously, and just had her first baby - anyhow, when she did research on listeria she says only 5 cases were reported in the US last year. Not that you should not be careful, but that it's not the biggest threat. Fresh sliced deli meat should be okay, just avoid the stuff that's been sitting in your fridge for 2 weeks.
Thank you, everyone.
I feel better about the sandwich. Hopefully I can shake this cold quickly...
