Cake Smash at party? or not

What are you doing? We are having A's party at a Pavilion in a local community park, there will really be nothing for us to clean her up with besides baby wipes and that might not cut it.

Also we are doing a cake smash photoshoot with one of my friends.. So what are you doing? I don't want people to be 'bummed out' because I didn't do a cakesmash at her party.. KWIM? This is the first grandbaby on DH's side but not on my parent's side.

WDYT? or What did you do or plan on doing.

TIA

  • We are doing her photos at her party so no one misses out, also to get the "party vibe" in the pics, ie. random people in the back ground and what not (with their consent of course.

  • We had DS's party at a local park. For his I took several washcloths. Soaked them in hot water, placed them in a freezer bag w/o ringing them out and put them in an insulated bag. i used a bottle bag... u could also use a lunchbag of something along those lines. We wiped him down w/ napkins as best as we could, I had a second outfit for him for the day so we just took his clothes off and then used the washcloths and redressed him... it worked really well.
  • You absolutely cannot have a first birthday party and not give the child cake.  Just bring a lot of wipes, a washcloth and a change of clothes.

Pretty much all of this. Just come prepared. Who cares if the kid still has icing/cake on them for the rest of the party?

We're doing a cake smash shoot the week prior to their 1st birthdays and they'll be getting more cake at their bday party, which I'm sure they'll smash.

  • We're having DS' party at a park this Sunday and we're doing a cake smash (even though I doubt DS will touch it). I'm bringing towels and figure I'll dunk them in the melted ice in the cooler to get them wet. I'll have a change of clothes too.
  • let them smash the cake...out party is at our house, so I don't have the clean up issue, but PPs have had good ideas about cleaning them up!
