Breastfeeding

STTN and supply...

My LO is starting to get closer to sttn (thank god!).  She usually goes a 6-7 hour stretch and then a few shorter ones after that.  My question is, does you supply drop if you just stop nursing at night or does your body still produce as much milk during the day and just adjust for the nights?  Should I get up to pump?  I am so excited at the idea of being able to get a longer night's sleep that I would really rather not get up to pump, but I also don't want my supply to drop.  Thanks!

  • Your body adjusts. My baby has been sleeping through the night for about a month. She still has some nights where she will wake up once for a feeding, but Im sure not going to wake up to pump. I do wake up engorged but she fixes that in the morning and sometimes pump if she only took one side.

  • I was wondering the same thing!  My son slept from 10pm-6:30 am the night before last.  I woke up leaking like the Titanic.

Last night, I woke him up at 3:30 to feed just because I wasn't sure what to do.

I might still get up to pump anyway, though, because the night feeding is the only time I pump to freeze milk.  I can get the most then- about 3 1/2 oz per breast.  He feeds from one and I pump the other.
