I started training for a 10 mile race just before I found out I was pg. It's in October and I still hope to do it, but very slowly! It's one of my favorite races and I haven't done it in a few years because I never get chosen from the lottery! Of course this is the year I get in:)
I ran a marathon on June 18, so I have a pretty strong base. The plan I changed to for the 10 mile is one where I run three days a week and cross train two days. None of my runs will have speed work. I will just be getting the miles in so I can run 10 on race day. For pace I was thinking 9 or 10 minute miles depending on how I'm feeling. My half marathon pace was 7:45 so that seems conservative.
Anyone else running a lot or planning to do a race? Or any 2nd time moms with advice? I'd love to hear about your experience! My dr said it's fine as long as I'm not doing more than I did pre-pg.
Re: anyone running or training for something?
I had been training for a triathlon that was this past Sunday. I ended up not doing the race, but it was not b/c of the pregnancy. The river water quality was barely safe enough to swim in, and I am not going to mess with that!
I have a few 5k's this summer and fall and plan to keep up training and my gym workouts.
A friend of mine had a very healthy baby yesterday after finding out she was 7 weeks pregnant when she did an Ironman...

Wow, that is awesome! An Ironman!
My doctor said I can continue running and keep my plans in place. I was picked for a 10 mile lottery this year in early October and I'm planning on doing a Half Marathon at the end of October. Two races I'm backing out of are a Duathlon at the end of August, maybe I'm being silly but I'm afraid I might fall off my bike! The other is a Mud Run in September that is really fun, but too many scary challenges that have you climbing really high or have you crawling on your belly - so I'll pass on that one too this year!
I've just found it hard to motivate myself to get out there this past couple weeks, first trimester tiredness I think! I'm hoping to feel better so I can get back out there so I'm ready for the races. I have no intention of breaking any records, just a nice easy pace because I just love getting out here and doing it!
Mander, is your 10 miler in MN by chance?
I don't blame you for being a little cautious about the bike. And getting out to run has been hard for me too. Sometimes I just make myself, even if I'm really tired. But the first 2 miles are always brutal.
I've been training for a half marathon in September and am currently about 7 week pg. I've continued my runs but don't have the same motivation.
I ran all through my first preganancy and was so happy I did. My recovery went really well and I was back running 12 days postpartum. The one thing I changed was that I started running on the treadmill instead of outside at around 20 weeks because my balance really shifted and I tripped once while running outside. Also, last summer was really hot and I didn't want to overheat, so I stayed in the air conditioned gym:)
I was training for a half marathon in October but my motivation is pretty low right now, so I may just do the 10K. I just completed my 4th half in April and I definitely want to stay in shape and continue running for as long as I can.
MCP-12 days postpartum! That is awesome and I hope that I can keep it up as well.
I am a runner and have continued at my normal pace/rate since my BFP on 7/4/2011.
I plan to do this the entire pregnancy ( tapering off in the final weeks)
You can do it! The Health and Excercise Board provides me great motivation.

I just got back into running this year and have been running consistently about 40 miles a month. The last few weeks I've been feeling dizzy and don't trust myself to run, so I've been walking for 30 min each day. Once the dizziness passes, I want to start up again, but I'll check with my doctor first since my HR tends to get pretty high when I run.
