Need Opinions on Nursery Furniture

My grandmother bought the baby the Graco Lauren crib as a surprise for us... They make a matching changing table but do not make a matching dresser. It is one of those cribs that converts into the full size bed, so I would like to buy a dresser for it. If I bought a different brand dresser (like stork craft) do you think there would be a noticeable color difference in the wood?

Thanks for your help... FI doesn't really care lol

  • I am having the same exact problem! We have a crib being sent to us with a changing table but we are having problems finding a matching dresser (and of course H just wants to use the nasty looking one he has thats falling apart lol). I am picky about furniture matching and it is drivng me crazy. We got her bookshelf and cubicle organizer in white and I would like to have the dresser be wood but I might just have the crib and glider be wood and have the rest of the furniture white. I feel like it is going to look weird but hopefully it'll look okay since the bedding set on the crib and the cushions on the glider will have white in them.

  • Probably, yeah.  It's tough to get an exact stain match from brand to brand.  We bought a different dresser (the matching one to our crib was $1200 and won't fit in the room once we convert the crib to a double; not spending $1200 on a dresser to use for a few years and then put into storage!)  Since we were going different anyway, we just went completely different and bought a white dresser - the crib is espresso wood.  It looks fine in the room, since the doors, window trim, blinds, baseboards, etc. are all the same shade of white as the dresser.

  • My husband's boss and his wife gave us their old crib. It's kind of a cherry colored wood and I was afraid that the changing table we picked out wouldn't match, but it's so close you can't even tell. Especially if you're not planning on having the furniture right next to each other. Most likely you won't be able to tell the difference. Just my opinion!

  • FYI don't get the Storkcraft ANYTHING - my MIL bought us the changing table, dresser and crib - it is all flake board and two pieces flaked off so we can  not even finish putting it together- they are sending us the replacement parts at no charge but these pieces are CHEAPLY MADE!!!!

I returned the crib and bought a different brand completely spending 100 mmore than what she did.  I appreciate teh gesture but wish I could have handles the furniture before it was purchased to say thanks but no thanks.

  • We have the same Lauren crib/changing table. Graco does make dressers in Espresso, they just aren't Lauren. We are still deciding if we want to spend $ on a dresser right now, since we won't really be using it. LO has a large closet with built in shelving we plan to use for a while. I do plan on getting the Graco glider in Espresso through.
