I have my first prenatal appointment coming up in 4 days. I am thinking of calling my doc to see what I should expect to happen. I will be just about 6 wks (5 wks, 6 days). I am assuming I won't get an ultrasound done since it still pretty soon.
I was wondering exactly what the doctor does to confirm the pregnancy and tell you how far along you are. I have used the online "calculators" to figure it out, and my due date is March 23. Will she do any kind of exam to cofirm that (an intermal exam) or will it just be based on my first day of my last period?
What a wonderful, exciting time this is for all of us!! Best wishes to everyone.... can't wait to share my little secret with the world outside of "The Bump" HAHA!
Re: doctor confirming pregnancy/how far along
WOW! we have the same due date! I already had my prenatal appt. they take blood do an exam and urine sample. All offices are different but most dont do an ultrasound untill15-20 week to confirm your due date/sex.etc. this will be my second. So its all reptty much the same. Are you already super nauseas? i wasnt last time and its crazy bad this time...lol
Congrats to you!
With this pregnancy and my last, my first appointment was at 9 weeks. So everyone's experience could vary greatly. We did weight, urine test, blood test, pap. Gave a bag of magazines, diaper samples, junk ads, etc. They go of LMP. But then tried to hear with doppler (because I asked) and it was too early to hear on my belly, so he asked when I got positive (which happened to be a week after my missed period).
So then when he did internal exam he could feel how big my uterus was to nail down a date. (He was very good with due date on last baby just by feel, too (it matched the u/s). Which is weird because it we had no idea when I o'd due to a loss and messed up cycles.)
We scheduled u/s for 12 weeks and that will give a better idea for "the" due date that we'll use the rest of the pg.
WOW I have my 1st prenatal appt on 7/29 and I'm excited too. I was wondering the same thing so i'm glad you asked, good question. We're hoping to catch the babies heart beat. I feel little butterflies in my throat and stomach just thinking about it. HAHAHA!
Merry baby news on your OB day!

My doctor does an early visit just for my confirmation of pregnancy, they just did a urine test.
Then, later (around 8-12 weeks) they schedule the first official prenatal visit. My doctor usually does an internal (pap included but just to make sure everything is normal) and breast exam. A lot of doctors won't do an u/s until much further along. Maybe you will get lucky though. Usually they base your EDD on your LMP and will adjust it at future u/s if needed.
Actually, no. I have no nausea. pretty much have 0 appetite, and nothing really sounds good, but no sickness. My breasts are getting a lot more dense and hard, and nipples starting to become a tad more sensitive. I want all of the symptoms I can get right now to help further "prove" my pregnancy HAHA! All I have to go by now is 3 positive HPTs and a missed period... I'm ready for some confirmation!! Good luck to my due date twin!
