Freezer crisis...help pls!

I just went into my freezer and noticed it had been left open. Not sure for how long. All the items on the top shelf are defrosted, and my freezer stash that is on the bottom is still frozen with the exception of a few bags that are slightly defrosted.  I will use the slightly defrosted ones, but what about the rest that seem to still be frozen?  Do I need to throw it all out?

  • I don't know, but I think that if they were on the bottom, covered by other frozen foods, and they seem completely frozen, they are probably fine.  It's not like your freezer was turned off, right?  It was still being cooled, it's just that some of it escaped and heat got in.  I'd call a LC and ask, but I think they are probably okay.

  • If they didn't defrost, they should be fine.

Ditto this.  And I put a child safety lock on my freezer that has my milk on it, not so a child can't open it (I did this when we only had ds) but so that everyone knew they had to lock it (and therefore, it had to be closed) when they were done.

  • Defrosted/slightly defrosted = use (as long as the defrosted ones were still cold)

    Still frozen = fine.
