First Birthday gift ideas!

I have no idea what to get DS for his first Birthday!!  There is always the practical PJ's and clothes, but I want to get him something fun.  DH is no help and is offering no suggestions.  Do you have any recommendations?

  • Something with numbers and letters yet is flashy and fun.

  • BTW your son is adorable
  • DH and I have a tradition that every child in the family gets a Build A Bear on their first birthday.  It's fun and you can make it their own

  • Someone on here recently suggested the personalized Sandra Boyton book Are you a Cow?  It was $24 and we got it for DD. Her name and pictures and an inscription from us are in it. I think it's a great keepsake and DD loooves books.

  • We're getting him a wagon.  We're also starting a tradition of getting him a special book for his birthday each year.  This year it will be You Are Special by Max Lucado.  We'll probably do a few outfits and some books, too, but the wagon is his main gift.

  • I'm planning on getting LO an Happy Blankie www.happyblankie.com with his name embroidered on it.  When you buy a blankie, they donate a blankie to a child in need and keep you updated as to where it went.  They are also A.DOR.ABLE.
  • We're converting our bonus room into a playroom for Sophie. That will probably be her present. I imagine her grandparents will willingly contribute to that project in the form of toys toys toys!!!

    Good decision!

We never got a dining room set when we bought our house last year. We officially decided to turn it into a playroom, at least through toddlerhood. Best decision ever...I can see him from two other rooms and the rest of the house gets to stay neatly adult.

  • We're getting the girls a pillow pet each, and then they will each get one of those recordable storybooks. My husband is gone a lot for work (days at a time) so I want the girls to always be able to hear his voice, and I think getting them one for their first birthday makes it special, even though they won't understand yet.

The girls are the first grandkids for both my parents and my husband's parents, and MY grandparents first great-grandkids, so there will be no shortage of toys and clothes given..

  • A great first birthday gift is a personalized story book. For girls they have the fairty tale story and for boys they have the pirate story. The story spells out the childs name. So cute!

  • Not sure yet-it's tough, because his birthday is about a week after Christmas. I don't yet how I want to divide things between the two days for him, but one thing I really think is cute is this little kitchen-

I am also thinking a college team pillow pet , and Lion King DVD, and I don't know what else. I am thinking probably books, and maybe some other wooden Melissa and Doug toys.
