Mommies of 2 or more- if first was late, will your second be too??

Anybody know the stats (or experiences) on if your first was late, then the second one will be too? My DS was 5 days late and I am just hoping that I don't have to go through all that again! I know every pregnancy is different, just wondering what you guys have experienced??

  • My doctor said that since I was late with my first, I'd likely be late this time too.  I have no idea if there's any truth to that, but I'm certainly hoping she's wrong.

  • Not necessarily.  DS1 was four days late. DS2 was born on his due date.  My doctor told me a week ago that DS3 is a week and a half ahead of measurements.  Which leads me to believe that he'll probably be born before his Sept. 17th due date.

Here's another example.  I was born two weeks early and my Sister was born two weeks late.

  • I had to be induced at 42 weeks with 3 of my kids. I went naturally at 38 weeks with my last, so it'll be interesting what happens with this one.

  • Ive been wondering this as well, since I went early at 38 wks, and wouldnt mind going into labor at 38ish weeks again.  That said...from what I have heard it varies greatly from woman to woman.

  • i've been told that often (not always) women tend to go around the same time. my first was 10 days early (naturally) --- based on that, and how i've been progressing & feeling, my doc thinks #2 will be early too. i'm anxious to see if he is. based on the way i've been feeling this week, i'm thinking early too.
  • I really pray that the second will be late if the first one was. I was induced at 41 +1 with DD1 and found it really emotionally/mentally/physically draining to be overdue. The constant phone calls, disappointment, anticipation and discomfort were awful and all I wanted to do was sit on the couch. This time around I've got a toddler to chase and I can't just sit on the couch. My midwives induce 10 days after the due date if need be and I really don't want to play the waiting game again.

  • My midwife just told me they come on average 4 days sooner. Which still puts me at 40 w 2d. Kinda hoping she comes just a few days sooner than that.
  • My brother's ex wife is on her 6th child. They all came at different times, some were induced, some were not. It varies each pregnancy.

  • Both of mine were exactly 7 days overdue. In fact I went into labour at the exact same time with both! I'm expecting to go late again this time.

  • I've heard so many different things I don't know what to believe.  I guess it really just varies person to person, pregnancy to pregnancy.

I was one week late and had to be induced w/o drugs (foley bulb).  I'd really like to go into labor on my own time around and I hope it's no so late.

  • I do not think there is a correlation. You will hear many stories where so-n-so had 3 kids and they were all a little late, then whats-her-face will tell you she had 3 kids and they came all over the due date spectrum. It really just depends on when LO is done cooking in there. My first arrived ON his due date, doubt that will happen this time around lol

  • I was 9 days late with #1 and am praying that I don't go that late again!

My mom was a few days late with me, then one day early with my sister. So it just depends.

What DOES give me hope is how common it is to go way over your due date with your first...makes me think I can't possibly go 9 days over again with this one!

  • My OB with my 2nd dc told me in his experience women tend to go into labor around the same time each time, it was true for me , I was 1 day late with ds then 3 days late with dd-to me that is around the same time.. I asked my current OB and she said history tends to repeat itself..So same theory.

  • I was told there was no correlation between pregnancies. We'll see!
  • I really don't want to be late again. Being induced again is not my idea of a fun time.

  • I wasnt late nor do I have two kids yet. DD was 22 days early and my ob said theres no guarantee this one will be early. I imagine its the same for late.. My cousins first wwas late she had to be induced (ended up csection) at a week late. Her second was early, third she had preterm labor issues but managed to hold on to passed her due date.. norlt sure she counts dudue to all the interventions.. I waw a due ddate baby but my brother was induced two weeks early.. so not real helpful :)
  • My first was 3 days late and my second was a week early.  Good luck.
