Thank you so much girls for all your well wishes and support over the last 2 years. I am sorry this took me so long to write but Little Tyler is quite the drama king and ever second that he is sleeping I have to take a nap also.
Sunday 7/10 we went to the hospital (40w6d) at 5pm so that we could start the induction process. The plan was to start Cervidil Sunday night and then monday morning see how it helped and then start pitocin (around 7am). We went to L&D and put me on the monitor and it looked like I was having regular contractions that were a good size but I couldn't feel them. They started my IV and my Dr. came in around 7pm to put in the cervidil (it wasn't the gel but a little piece of gum on a string). Well that was on of the most painful things i have experienced becuase he couldn't use any lube and basically shoved his big, gloved hand way up and behind my cervix. Thank God DH went to go get dinner otherwise he might have hit him. They said ok "go get some sleep becuase this might not do much" Well...
A couple of hours l was having contractions but they didn't hurt much but i thought they were coming pretty fast even though I wasn't timing them. Around 1am they were coming 1minute apart and lasting about 45 seconds. I had DH get the nurse and ask if this was normal. She said no and that the cervidil was working too well so she took it out and that hurt also but her hands were smaller but she felt terrible becuase the Dr. shoved it way up there. She then suggested Dermerol as my contractions might get uncomfortable but since I was only 2 cm dialated they wanted to wait a little for the Epi.
About 5 minutes after the demerol my water broke and I had started bleeding (bloody show but my being on the demoral and still pissed about the Cervidil removal I thought it was a big emergency). Nurse reminded me that it was normal and she will come back to check on me in a little bit. Well I went from a 4 to a 9 on the pain scale in about 30 minutes! DH was great but my contractions were coming hard and fast, the nurse heard my pain and convinced my Dr to order the EPI since the Anestisologist (sp?) was already on the floor with another patient and she didn't have the heart to see me in that much pain (I was still only 3 cm). After the EPI was I was able to sleep for about an hour and then I woke up feeling like what I would describe as a tampon falling out and some pressure. They checked me and I was 5cm and she said that although I want to push I cant so use the breathing techniques. DH was great and for a couple of hours we tried NOT pushing. After a while at 7am I told the nurse that I needed to push (she checked and I was just about there so I can push if I want.
The new shift came in and that nurse was awsome also. She kept telling me to pull my legs up but I couln't becuase of the epi. so her and DH had to hold my legs up. She left the room for about 15 minutes and left DH to hold my legs up in the air by himself. (I guess she could tell that Tyler wasn't going to fall out). It felt SO good to push because you felt like you were doing something. The Ept didn't take away all the pain (which I kept saying it wasn't working but the nurse reminded me that you will still feel pressure but not the contractions.. Duh). After an hour of pushing Tyler was born. i needed an episiotomy (sp?) and had a 2nd degree tear. I remember while they were sewing me up telling the doctor that I felt it and that the EPI didn't work. I also remember telling him I was pissed at him because of the cervidil. He said though that a 12 hour induction is amazing!
1.5 weeks post partum and I actually feel great. I am almost back down to my pre pregnancy weight and i feel like i rode 50 miles on a bike adjusting to mommyhood is a bit overwhelming but DH stayed home for 2 weeks and has been a huge help as i pulled a back muscle during labor and it tightens up on me a bit so he takes tyler so i can rest
ok now for the fun part..
meet tyler christopher! at 5 days old
