Cloth Diapering

A question about wool measurements.

If these are my LO's measurements:

Rise: 15" Waist: 19" Inseam: 6"

Do you think I measured correctly? When I see things for sale, the measurements are always off and I don't know what would fit and what wouldn't...

help :)

Re: A question about wool measurements.

  • Make sure to measure over a diaper, preferably one of the largest you'd use with that wool.  The inseam looks a little long to me; for shorties it's often 2-3 inches, and for longies more like 4-5.  The diapers can take up a lot of room, though.

I measured over a large diaper that she wears at night...

It seems that I usually find that longies with the correct rise has a really long inseam... and the waist is always whacko... ::shrug:: I think I need to re-measure...

Also... where do you measure the waist? around the top of the diaper? or around her belly button area?

  • I'd measure around the top of the diaper.  That's for two reasons; one is because covering the diaper is the important part, and the other is because the thickness of the diaper can affect the measurement.  Same with rise.  Make sure the diaper would be covered all the way, preferably with a little space for wiggling/growing.  Several of DS's woolies now don't cover his diapers all the way in the back, and are going to need to be retired soon.

    Thanks!! I will re-measure!

  • For the waist measure around the actual waist. The woolies will have some give to stretch over the diaper. You can add a little extra to the rise to make sure the entire diaper is covered. For the inseam it's easier to just measure a pair of pants that fit.

Emolee would know better than I would - go with what she says.
