Babyproofing: Do you have iron end tables and such with kids?

Curious how "baby proof" you purposefully make your home?

In an effort to decorate my home, I'm feeling lost when it comes to design. Rhayna didn't require any babyproofing besides gates at stairs - she was a very content, non-investigational (into our stuff) kid.

I want to get a wrought iron end table but am scared I'll have to put it away or cover it in foam when Roslyn starts crawling....

Do you sacrifice style & design for "safety"?

Re: Babyproofing: Do you have iron end tables and such with kids?

  • We had glass coffee and end tables with metal legs.  We removed them around 7 mos, once the babies started standing up.  Our pedi gave us a good piece of advice - to make the room we spend the most time in a "safe room" for the babies to play and explore, and not constantly hearing the word "no".  So....for now, our living room looks like a day care.  We don't have a coffee table - we have foam play mats.  We have one end table that is from my single days, is wood with rounded corners, and safe for them to be around.  We padded every sharp edge/corner with foam.  Putting plexiglass over the fireplace.  Baby gates to block off the room.  It is certainly not stylish, but it gives us great peace of mind, and lets them explore and play to their hearts' content.  I know it will just be for a period of time, and I can have our living room back :)
