Cloth Diapering

Washing BG CD's - need help!

I started using BumGenius 4.0 with snaps a few days ago with DD and have done 3 washes so far. I have a really nice washer/dryer that is a top loader, and have been washing them on a hot cycle with auto soak and an extra rinse. Some diapers still have poop on them, and the liners are still stained (although they appear to be 'clean'). My SIL uses the same diapers with the same detergent and her diapers come out perfect everytime, and we both exclusively BF.

Any suggestions? TIA!

  • Do they have actual poop on them, or are they just stained? Stains happen--the easiest way to deal with them is to sun the diapers after they're washed.

This. Sometimes they come out perfectly white, and sometimes there are some stains that I just have to sun out. They are still clean. :)

Sometimes there's actual poop on a couple of the diapers. The first time I washed them the poop was pretty bad, but last time I washed them it was just a speck here and there. I'm frustrated because I really like the idea of CD's overall and don't want to give up.

  • Even if it is top loading, it can still be a high efficiency machine. Those often use less water, so you may want to manually add water yourself when it is filling up.

  • Are you running a cold soak before you start the wash cycle?  That helps get rid of things on the diapers before they go through an actual wash cycle with detergent.

    This.

I usually run either a soak cycle or a rinse with no spin to get some extra water and weight in there and loosen up the nasties first.
