Since having DS I've worried way more about every little thing to do with him. Like I check frequently (especially at first) if he's breathing at night. But Saturday night I was down right panicked. I was driving through an intersection and someone ran a red light, crashing into me. My best friend was in the passenger seat and DS in his car seat in the back. Honestly, I have never been so terrified in my life. My friend and I are both super sore, she has huge bruises and needs physio for her shoulder. I may have a fractured clavicle from the seat belt. Thankfully he slept through the whole thing and seems to be totally fine. I got him out of his car seat so fast and just held him as tight as I could. I hope I never come that close to loosing him ever again. I am so thankful for every day with him and that night, waking up to feed him, I just held him a little longer and didn't mind that I was loosing precious sleep. Also a good car seat is SO WORTH IT! ours was expensive but I feel that by buying one I researched the crap out of, I did everything I could to make sure he was as safe as I can make him. I couldn't control that man reading a map, instead of watching the road and running into us, but I could make sure DS was in the safest car seat I could get.
I've learned to hug your little ones as much as you can. They are beautiful gifts.
Re: Scariest moment as a mom
That is very scary! I'm glad no one was hurt worse! Make sure you check the guidelines for car seats after an accident: https://www.nhtsa.gov/people/injury/childps/childrestraints/reuse/restraintreuse.htm
I am so scared of other drivers on the road. No one pays attention anymore! People are texting, playing with electronics, eating, etc. Pretty much doing everything except for watching the road and being aware of people around them! It only takes one distraction to cause a terrible accident and I wish more people would wake up and realize that.
Your totally right. I do actually have my first aid and CPR but it wasn't my sanest moment ever. I realized after I took him out I shouldn't have. The paramedics were sweet and didn't make me feel too stupid for panicing like that. I'm hoping I'm never in that situation again but if I am I'll do my best to remember what I've learned.
We are getting it replaced, thankfully insurance should cover it. We spoke with the paramedics, fire fighters and police at the scene asking if we could use it to get him home from the accident. They said because of where we got hit it was probably fine to use until we got it replaced but I'm avoiding using it unless I really really have to until we can replace it. I'm far to paranoid now to not have a new one.
What a douche! I'm glad you guys are ok. This happened to my best friend. She had her almost 20 month old and her 2 week old in the car when a stupid woman ran a red. She just started sobbing and freaking out about it. I know I for sure would.
Make sure you get a replacement carseat. Any time you are in an accident you are supposed to get a new one. Insurance should pay for it. And don't let them get you a cheap one.
ETA: Just read the rest of the responses. (I only read a few) I'm glad you are getting a new seat. But I still stand firm to not let the insurance company get you a cheap one or not cover the cost of a good one.
