I thought that we had our names set in stone for our babies, Fletcher and Beatrice, who now thanks to all of you have beatiful middle names. This changed the other day when I was in a Tropical Smoothie. There was a mom with two children, one daughter and one son, nothing wierd there. They were making her mad and I heard her say Michael, Casey stop it right now. Still normal, but then she said Michael go wash your face and the little girl got up. At first I was thinking how horrible it sounded for a girl to be named Michael then I started thinking more and more and it seemed to fit better for a girl then a boy. I was looking to see if anybody had posted about this but couldn't find one. Now I sort of want to name our daughter Michael Sawyer. Is this wrong? Please give me advice since she will have to live with this name forever.

Yes, it is wrong.

I wouldn't do it...it's a name much more commonly associated with boys than girls.
That said, if you're really attached to the idea, please consider a more feminine middle name, so she has something she can use if she gets tired of being mistaken for a man.
The name "Michal" is a woman's name (she was Saul's daughter and King David's first wife in the Bible). If you really do wish to name a daughter Michal, I wouldn't do the Michael spelling. Michael + Sawyer = boy name. Michal + Beatrice = unusual but actually a girl name.
Another option is Michaela.
Well, my name is Keri Michael Marie. I do like Michael on a girl but I prefer it as a middle name. There are so many beautiful, feminine first names for girls it would be a shame not to use one. I really like Beatrice. I was named after my dad and my family is French so it's not odd for me. I know 3 other girls with Michael as a middle name and it's cute, but as a first name... not cute.
Save Michael Sawyer for a boy if you really like it. It is not a girls name.
I was going to write this. I know 2 women named Michal, so if you are going to use this name, please use this spelling.

Don't name your girl Michael.
There's a girl on my month board who is going to name her daughter Michael. Some of us have tried to talk her out of it, but no dice. Please don't do it.
First,
Second, Beatrice is 1,000,000x's better than Michael.

I've known a few girls named Michel (pronounced Michael). It's NMS but I do prefer it to Beatrice.
EDIT: Also, no matter how you spell it Michel Sawyer would be 10x more masculine than Fletcher. You might as well name your boy Sue.
You can't saddle a beautiful little girl with names like Michael and Sawyer. That's just cruel, IMO.
Michelle and Michaela are fine names if you love Michael.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
I have a son and a husband named Michael and I see it FIRMLY as a boy's name. Stick with Beatrice, its beautiful and timeless
My neighbor has a 3 year old named Gabriel Michael-its a GIRL. Beautiful little girl, but that's 100% a boy's name. Nothing unisex about it. In my opinion anyway.
I think you were doing great with Beatrice and Fletcher!
I'm guessing you're right...to go from Beatrice to Michael Sawyer seems fishy to me. Not to mention that trolling trolls LOVE having twins....
First off, I don't care whether you guys think of me as a troll or not.
Second, this post was about a really hard decision I am going to have to make soon, and I needed guidance. Most of you gave me guidance in a nice way, but others are being rude. This post is about Beatrice/Michael not Fletcher. How dare you say that that is not a masculine name! For your information he is named after my father who fought for this country.
Third, I am having twins because they run in my family. My mom has a twin, my grandmother had twin brothers, and my great grandmother was a twin.
The name is beautiful spelled this way, although pronunciation gets a bit tricky. A friend of our family has a daughter named Michal, and they pronounce it as though it were spelled "McCall", but I've also heard it pronounced "me-kahl".
Don't get your panties in a twist. YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION (according to your OP) was that you thought Michael for a girl was "horrible". Your words. I would go with that first feeling because that is what almost everyone who meets your daughter is going to think.
As for Fletcher, chill out. Pulling the military card is ridiculous. Are you implying that nobody who serves in our armed forces can have a feminine name? Because as a military spouse, I can assure you that there are many many bad names in the military.. I guess I'm no longer patriotic.

I dont really care what your reasoning for anything is. Naming a girl Michael Sawyer, both of with are MASCULINE NAMES, seems like a joke. And if you truly are being sincere about it, I would advise against doing it because it's a terrible name for a girl. I mean get real woman!
